Working on replacing my alternator and alternator belt today. I thought I would swap out the crank pulley at the same time. I checked on the one on the car and it actually looks ok to me.

What do you guys think does this crank pulley look ok?

Also I read that you should prevent the pulley from turning when breaking the bolts loose. Which way should it not turn? Clockwise or counter clockwise, or are both bad?

Looks fine to me. Did it ever have a noticeable wobble when running? What about a strange vibration/noise around ~4000RPM especially in 4th gear? If not, it's fine, don't change it.

If you want to change it, just put a 1/2" breaker bar in the center bolt hole there and crack the 4 bolts loose, no big deal. Usually the crank spins clockwise so it's not advisable to rotate the pulley counter clockwise too much since you risk slacking off the timing belt.

Thanks for the quick reply guys!

No wobble,or vibration issues that I ever noticed.

I think I’ll run the installed pulley this year and check it before winter storage. At least I have a new OEM spare if it needs to be replaced later.

Thanks again for the help.

You can mark the inner and outer portions of harmonic balancer with a straight line (paint marker of something). If the line breaks, the inner/outer portions are moving independently. Makes for a quick check.
