So i went to a mechanic today just to see if he can run a diagnosis of my fuel problem. I would have used a palm pilot with pocket logger software myself if i hadnt left it back home, 1 state away. I was visiting my sister when my car started to act up. The fuel pump whine got real loud after an hour long drive.

So the mechanic used some weird OBD II wireless computer and was checking for codes and fuel, etc. When it came to Crank position sensor, his reading said it was turned off. He told me that wasnt good. Later on, he told me the reading came up because the car was off. He is really confusing me. I mean those CPS are either turned on or off, and no way my car would run liek the way it runs. Whatever he was using, was the slowest diagnostic tool I have ever seen, it roughly took up to 30 seconds for each category to show. My old ass palm pilot ran faster than that.

Ive been driving my car like this for awhile now, I never had any starting or dieing issues, and my car runs just fine with the exception of the fuel pump sounding like its over working. Can anyone tell me am I just being paranoid. Within a few minutes, I had the car taken out of the shop because the mechanic admitted he doesnt know much about car parts and he uses the computer software to help him install parts. After 5 minutes of dropping the car off at his shop initially, he said he was going to work on some other car and would call me later in the afternoon to tell me if anything is wrong with the car so we can proceed.

I came back 5 minutes later to get the car out of the shop and guess what? It was gone, turned out the guy took it out for lunch break and decided to go home. His boss saw me come to the shop and he got nervous, he immediately caled the mechanic and in a quiet tone he told the mechanics son that the guy who owns the red eclipse is here, tell daddy to bring the car back right now. I know for a fact he beat the hell out of my car..when he pulled up it really smelled like it. Even when he pulled up in the mechanic shop, I heard that thing spool so loud..i mean come on a 50 trim in parking lot? Even i dont run my cars like that, I even told him not to WOT my car because it still needs to be tuned and he doesnt know jack about DSM's. He wouldnt know where to start.

But anyway, my fuel pump whine got quieter and car is running ok again. This is driving me nuts, I just want to know what the hell is wrong with my car. He said the fuel pump seems to be doing its job, but thats based on his test drive LOL. I didnt let him diagnose it any further because paying the $150 fee is stupid, when I could just buy another fuel pump and install it myself. Seemed like a nice mechanic, but he really shouldnt call himself a mechanic when he is still learning. I dont want someone "learning" to work on my car.

I hate this whole "car runs like crap right now, but tommorow morning itll go back to normal" kind of thinking. Thats whats happening..I want a permanent fix.

No it came with the car, my car has 60k miles on it right now, the fuel pump was added around 30k.

I think my main concern now is the CPS off reading..what in the hell..first he said it was off and thats not good, then he said it showed the reading because the car was turned off..man i dont understand. I just want to go through crankwalk again, ive been through it a few times with my past DSM's. My car starts and runs strong, ive put over 500 miles on it since ive gotten it, taking a couple long trips.

the good thing is the fuel pump is under the rear seats so its a 5 minute job, and if thats not the problem just return the pump
