Noticed this after disassembling what I thought was a healthy transfer case. Is this a common defect?

Location: t-case input coupler.

Dang. I feel like shock loading with alot of driveshaft or rear end slip would be a factor? But I'm not well versed in diag for things like that.

Not having a t-case apart personally, is there a separate piece (coupler) from the crown/ring gear?

LOL the poll was just for fun.

I’m more curious if anyone has seen this type of failure before. Particularly on a t-case with “OK” spline wear and no slop in the bearings/shafts. I had it on a shelf forever thinking it was a good spare using traditional inspection methods.
