I got a couple of problems with my car, and i beleive that they are all trans/clutch related.
1st- Sometimes when starting the car, with the trans in neutral, the car seems to vibrate a bit, even if i rev the motor a bit. As soon as i put in the clutch, the vibration goes away, sometimes it stays away, sometimes it comes back.
2nd- When i depress the clutch, I am rewarded with a nice metallic rubbing sound. I beleive that this is the TOB which was brandy-new mitsu OEM 7k miles ago. This may also be related to the above problem.
3rd- Its seems that every so often, the trans does not want to go into 1st gear, once in gear, its shifts OKAY, however 1-2 is hard under hard accel, and 2-3 is notchy.
Trans is/was a brand new shep stage 3, with new SBR clutch/PP, new slave cylinder, new master, and rebuilt pedal assembly. Fluid is Pennzoil syncromesh, with 5-6k miles on it.
Here is what i am going to do tomorrow, change out the gear oil for new fluid, check the adjustment on the clutch pedal, check the alignment on the shift fork, and check the adjustment on the shifte mechanism.
I wanted to do some of this tonight, but the rain kinda killed that idea, so I wanted to get some opinions in case there are any other pointers.
Thanks for checking this out, and for adding any opinions, i will post my results tomorrow(weather pending)

Changed fluid, old fluid look good, if not a little thin, checked adjustment on pedal, and position of fork, all looks good there.
Changing the fluid helped the shifting between gears a little bit, just a bit smoother, but the screeching sound is still there.
Looks like i'll be pulling the trans a little sooner than I expected, time to replace the TOB.

Anywho, it turned out the be the TOB, I changed it out with a metal aftermarket unit, same as the one i had in there.
I didn't realize that the OEM stlye was the plastic type, and the aftermarket was metal.
I am not sure what cause the failure, I might have not have had it properly locked in place on the fork, I'll see if it lasts longer than the other one.

The Mits OEM style is metal and is the only way to go with a TOB. As long as you grease it, you shouldnt have a problem.

I had originally thought that the OEM style had the metal inner "slider" part, but then someone told me that the OEM had the plastic inner slider. The replacement aftermarket peice was of all metal construction, and looked exactly the same as the one I had put in there in the first place.
The first grease that i used was a hi-temp, silicone type grease normally used on brakes, it might had been a little thick. Made by AC-Delco.
This time i used a hi-temp, moly-based grease for industrial pump bearings, it is a good bit less viscous.
