Cost to rebuild the engine?

I got a complete rebuilt motor from a company named car kings online for 1400 shipped to my door with a 2 year warranty. To rebuild the motor from scratch it would take about 2 months depending on the shop to clean it up and get it ready for parts. A shop will charge you more then 1400 to rebuild it. If you have the tools to do most of the work yourself you could get by with a little over a grand. Just machine work will run over 800$. I had a 420a just so we are on the same page. I ran the motor 4 years with no problems and sold the car with it and it is still running last time I saw it.

Well the fact is that my dad's the mechanic, I have no idea what i'm doing haha. We got part of it taken apart like the valve cover, intake manifolds and stuff like that off, but then he just stopped working on it haha. So I pretty much just have to have a shop do everything.

If your dad has the tools you can rebuild it with the help of a Haynes book. It is pretty simple the hard part would be on having it all checked out have a shop do that get a rebuild kit and the book you could do it yourself. The 420a is a very simple engine I have freshened up one in my avenger years ago tore down cleaned up a bit and then put new rings and bearings in pretty simple. I am not saying that the book will tell you everything you need to know but ask questions to your dad and you could make it work.

What is wrong with the motor you have was it knocking, locked up, smoking, or just tired so you want to rebuild to be safe?

The motor had a knock so we were just going to rebuild it. But I couldn't really ask my dad questions, he's just completely ignoring it. I really wanted to have this done by MOD so I could drive it there.

I know you said you want to rebuild but with a knock your crank is maybe bad depending on how bad the bearings got this is the place I got mine from really it is a great deal look over the ad and you will see. Mine was ran for over 50,000 miles and lots of trips to the drag strip and is still running great save some time and buy an already done motor.

The first link is their home page the second is were you can find out more details.

I'd have to send in my old one though, which would cost a fortune to ship. It's stupid that they require the old one. But again, I know nothing of mechanical sorts so if I got one, i'd have no idea how to put it in haha.
