How much would it cost including labor to upgrade my engine to hold 500hp. This is for the distant future but I just want an idea, also what would be needed to do so?

depends where you going to di it , where you buy the parts and who is going to do it for you . Depends you wanna your 7bolt or do 6bolt swap , i see you want shep trans . i cant tell you exact price ( it varies a lot) :)i see you have some , fuel system upgrades , exhaust , wishlist turbo . i spent twice as much as i paid for my car , and i paid around 6500-7000 , well i had to get a new engine also LOL :D Have a budget to work with , make a plan , and for sure have extra money just in case :D

Leave it stock, with the exception of cams and valvesprings.

...And crack all of the top ring while wondering why it takes so long to boost. Happened to me.:(

ouch that sucks yep. The stock motor will hold 500 at the crank would wouldnt advise trying to get 500 wheel hp on stock motor. Unless you have money to spend and a spare car.

7 to 8 k, wow thats some good stuff your smoking..

we do 500whp on stock motors all the time they just tend to bend rods eventually.

May I ask who this "we" is that runs 500hp on stock blocks reliably?? Dont let the guy think he can do it on a stock block because it will not last. I watched a guy blow a rod through the oil pan and that was on the dyno at about 480whp.

Now if you find a good builder you should beable to get a short block 2.3 stroker for about $2000. Thats what my mechanic charge's for a forged stroker beast. Of coarse this dont count the labor of dropping the motor in. I would never pay more than 2k-2500 for a newly build stroker motor.

Yeah that's around the price that they build them for here. Got a guy that runs 9's on his all day long I can't beleive 8-9K for a built motor that's crazy

2.3 l stroker for 2000 OMG please give me this guys # or where can i find such a deal it would be greatly appreciated my dsm brethren

www.jackstransmissions.com

He mainly only ships trannys but if you gave him a call he may work a deal. He also may have raised his price's. He is a great guy and has built many strokers in his day. There goal this year is to get all there 3 shop cars in the 10's. I think two are already. Its a little harder up here in the high altitude and street tires.

What about 400- 450whp daily driven? Would that not last long either?
I eventually want to see if I can get that much out of a 50 or 54trim turbo later in the future. Only have a stock 6bolt motor.

I noticed that you want this to be a daily driver? It may seem pretty cool to tell your friends you have 500hp at the crank and burn your tires off daily. Truth of the matter is that eventually it can cause serious problems. I don't wanna be the downer here, but 350-400 hp on a daily driver is pleanty. We all know to get more power you need 1. more rpms' (unless you're stroked) 2. more fuel ( and gas isn't getting any cheaper) Again not to be the dower, what if you're driving along and it starts raining?? What if you're friends in the drivers seat while it starts raining?? man i feel old right now. someone please put me in my place, LOL

I feel that 350whp is plenty but thats just because I rebuilt my motor to OEM spec and have a 16g. But if I could do it all over again I would build a low rev 2.4L with a gt30 garret turbo. 400-500whp is perfect for a daily driver. A strip car with that power has been done and a lot of people run 400-500whp easy daily.

If i was awd id definitly go stroker and I believe if built right ( though your not suppose to ) id have a 2.3 - 2.4 set up revving out to 8 k rpms ( wouldnt go higher than that though and only in race situations ) with at least a 50 trim turbo making over 400whp... Would still be a good street car since its awd, but for fwd reconsidering my 400-450 whp quote, I suppose 350- 400 whp would be a better range for a street car ( hence since you cant run slicks on the street generally. )

The thought of leaving negative rep for most of you crossed my mind, but I think that might be a little extreme. If you guys seriously think a stock engine can't handle 500hp you shouldn't be posting in this thread. If you read the rules carefully you'll see rule #3 states:

Don't try to help if you don't know the answer - bad advice can be worse than no advice (no "I think" or "I guess" or "I've heard").

Since it's obvious most of you have no experience in this matter, you're violating the rules and you should refrain from posting any further "guesses".

To the thread starter, there a plenty of "which engine" threads to read through, it only takes a few minutes of work and you'll have all of the answers you need.

I know you can buy a stoke kit, what else would i have to buy along with that? cams and valve springs, GVR im listeing to and i believe you can do it stock but i have always wanted a 2.3l.
