just wondering if this is normal I have a aluminum radiator, front mount inter-cooler, a 160*f thermostat and i used royal purple water wetter with 50/50 coolant. this is what my car was running at when i was at a stop in traffic. I've replaced all my coolant lines. I'm assuming my car running hot because its so hot outside and the air circulation under my hood is so limited.

Are your fans turning on?

The fan on the drivers side of the radiator with the metal shroud only turns on when the car is idling and the AC is on. The fan with the plastic shroud is the main fan that will provide most if not all of your cooling at idle. Is that fan removed for the J pipe?

yes the ac fan is removed and I have a slim fan in with a shroud, I'm gonna take off this aftermarket shroud and put my stock fan back on that is on the passenger side, then try and squeeze this slim fan on the radiator and make it mount without the shroud.

Unless you're worried about cost I would put two aftermarket slim fans on. I'd be hesitant to run without a shroud. One reason being that the shroud doesn't just protect the fan blades, but it directs airflow. When is the last time you changed your radiator cap? It can't hurt to change it.

i have two slim fans but I have placement issues with the shroud due to the J pipe. My radiator cap is new also just put it on today.

My advice is to modify the pipe to fit around the fans, not the fans to fit around the pipe.

My stock fan outflows my slim fan 10 to 1. I have a stock fan on the passenger side and a slim on the j pipe side (driver) the slim fan feels like it does almost nothing.

I modified a small notch in the stock fan "basket" to make clearance for the j pipe, it was rubbing when I bought the car. Other than that 5 second with a razor blade there were no other issues having it installed.

Go to an OEM fan or a high quality aftermarket fan, and then add ducting for the fmic-radiator.

I just did that and I will let you know tomorrow how it worked out.

Ill be keeping my eyes on your post, im having a similar issue. Any bubbling in your reservoir when you shut the car off? Good luck!

AC condesor removed? Try 170 thermostat and try a different setup for coolant fluids. Buy a good aftermarket aluminum radiator like mishimoto or something. Use heat shields.

You don't always need to go to a lower degree thermostat people! If your car can't maintain the temperature of your current one, going lower wont fix the problem.

I found out there is no point to that lower rated thermostat. The fans click on around 190 ish and oem thermostat opens at 180. But as far as the over hearing issue it might be you need bigger fans for more airflow. Mine over heats when it idles for a long time without moving. But once I start moving the temp goes down.

I had the same issue recently in my 2g. I put a new t-stat in (180*), drained all the rad fluid out of it, than I added about 70% water, and 30% antifreeze. I also cut my front bumper about 2 inches upwards and the same width of the mouth. Driving around I can get lower than 190 temp and at idle it will sit at 200. Here and there if its really humid it might got to 209 and work its way back down to 203.

I have a koyo rad, greddy cap, fal dual slime fans, and after market hoses. I might add a extra fan on the frontside of my rad with a switch to keep temps down if needed.

I was thinking of adding a third fan on mine as well, just on a regular ol toggle switch. Mount it dead center on my intercooler to help pull air through that and into the fans for the radiator.... sounds good on paper but who knows if it will really do much? At least it gives me somehing to do for an afternoon while my car is running good, having "working on dsm withdrawals"...

Now ill probably drop a t belt for saying that... haha...

The block needs to be that 219* temp to operate at top efficency.

You cool that block down and you're not going to get what you want to get out of it due to it's running too cold.

This is why 195* T-stats are installed .. to get that block hot.

You cool that block down, the oil suffers as well since it's not getting hot enough for prime lubrication.

Coolant should be at 50/50 mix to keep the water pump lubricated at its prime.

And, with this 195* T-stat thing: it keeps the coolant flowing slower in the block to pull the most excess heat off the block. You move that coolant around too fast with a colder T-stat (or even remove it completely), and it won't pull as much heat off and you could be facing cylinder wall scorching.

Don't know where this "running cooler T-stats" comes into play .....

I didnt even consider how the block would react to such lower engine temps, I just got my new mistu rad 170 tstat and other goodies

I'm in Phoenix, Arizona we just had a 119F temp last night and my temps was only 194F on the coolant gauge. This is about as hot as my car gets when I use the wet nitrous spray. It would go down a tiny bit with the Royal purple additive purple ice.I'd do a full flush on your system and put in new coolant.
