KK well i recently gave up my 88 honda crx si that was completly built and turbo...but not dsm is a whole new field for me and im selling my parts off the crx..i know there is some stuff i can keep such as a intercooler and what not...but i have alot of tuning stuff that i bought for it and was wondering if they are capable to be used on a dsm...

can they be chipped?
can i use a william burner?
where can i find programs to tune with? and are they free?
also can i use my inovattive wideband or do i need to purchase somethign different?

thanks any help would be appreciated...

you can use an innovate wideband on most engines running all types of fuels. i say check your users manual on how to use a wideband or read up on innovates site on what a wideband does and people use them for and alot of your confusion will be cleared

The ECU's with EPROM can be "chipped" kinda. You can buy a blank chip with the same pinset as your EPROM chip and you can burn data onto it. It's like building your own custom chip. Take a visit to these folks http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/dsm-ecu/ and start learning! There's lots to know about these chips, but first you havta figure out if you have EPROM or not. The pics at the bottom show you how to tell

Another great site for ECU editing is here http://users.wpi.edu/~ktarry/dsmtech/dsmromedit.html

You did the right thing coming to this site... Learn a lot here :thumb:

P.S. You can use your wideband from the Honda

Good luck!

EDIT: if you don't want to burn your own chips, you can buy chips pre-made with some certain values. These can be found at places such as http://www.dsmchips.com/

You could go with DSM Link, witch would be our version of Hondata if you think of it that way.

Most people buy a front mount and fab up there own piping,You might want to keep your turbo depending on wich one you had on your CRX and if its a T3 flange you would have to buy a manifold for it.

255 Feul pump is a must, what are you looking to do and how fast do you want to go right now? DSMs kinda have a upgrade path to take you in a few direactions.

ECU Plus is not really a "chipped" option. It is a piggyback like a SAFC that has a logger and a built-in MAFT for the GM MAF. You can't do all the things on ECUPlus that you can do on DSMLink. But for someone who doesn't have an E-PROM ECU or doesn't want to buy one, ECUPlus is a good buy.

FYI - 1G DSMs (Pre-1995) and SOME 1995 DSMs have EProm ECUs. 1996+ DSMs don't have EProm ECUs.

i had a t3/t4 hybrid on the crx...right now im just looking to keep it nice but have some power...not use to how slow it is...the crx would walked it buy 5 car lengths if not more...its got power and is a good platform to start with iv noticed while driving i have no top end and i hate that so gonna open it up a lil with some exhaust since its stock....

now the dsmlink do they charge money for that like hondata when i was running chipped programs on the honda there were free programs for tunning...the tunning of the honda really got complicated when it came down to things..

so i guess im looking to keep a nice ride but have some power to play with what do u guys think would be some good mods?

Glad to hear you made the Jump! Any and all questions about your car can be found on this site..the search function will be your best friend for the next few months.

yea search is good..came in handy alot on some other sites i used on the honda sure it will on this site 2...just hope there not alot of flaming and bashing goin on here...but thanks for the welcome

If you look around on their website, you'll notice that DSMLink does cost money. I don't know of any free programs.

Also, this is a well moderated technical forum. Please try to use proper grammar. It makes life easier for everybody. Unlike other forums, you will not get flamed or bashed for questions that are ignorant/answered thousands of times. Your thread will simply be removed and you will be directed to the search button.

To help us help you better, we also need to know more about your car. There are significant differences between the 1g and the 2g. Fill out your profile as completely as you can. Sometimes on a post you might overlook some problems that other more experienced members can diagnose from your car profile.

Also, if you haven't already, please read the site rules and stickies. A DSM is quite a bit different from a honda. The tech guide is a great place to start your modding.

well it repends on some goals you have... what are you looking for? You said you had a honda CRX with a t3/t4... you know what that means to us realistically? Nothing... walking a stock dsm by 5 car lengths to is isn't really all that fast. So just tell us what you want? and what year is your car. Is it AWD or not?

A dsmlink is complete engine management w/ options of studder box and antilag to program into it...

now as for first mosts?

Why not get a full turbo back? if you don't need a cat that would be better... Then throw in a boost gauge... Buy a boost controller for like 50 bucks... get a tuning device... do the fuel pump rewire... and it is a good way to get started...

Notice I didn't say intake... because the reason is that will depend on your turbo upgrade. Get some injectors and a 255 lph fuel pump... and ofcourse by then you either need a piggyback and a logger or a DSMlink..

well the crx was down to 13's with a sohc so i consider that fast but this is not about that...thanks for all the advice and ill update my profile...

The car is a 94 tsi awd

There are guys using tunerpro to customize their own chips. Not my favorite but there are some ecu files out there for it.

A DSM EPROM ECU uses a 27128 to 27512 EPROM or compatable EEPROM just like the Honda. Your william burner wil work just fine. Unlike the Honda ECUs the DSM EPROM ECU already has a chip soldered in with the factory code, so it has to be removed to socket the ECU but no extra hardware added. On a 1G ECU only the top 8k from 0xc000 to 0xffff is mapped for ROM.
