im getting strange knock readings on my 92 awd. i get zero knock cruising at a steady rpm. i spoiled the turbo up to about 10 psi 3 different times today, and got between 0 and 10 counts of knock, which seems pretty normal to me since its un-tuned. i have yet to go WOT, because the car was tuned at 28 psi on 116 octane, iv been running it on 93 with the boost turned down(i asume its about 20, i havent spoiled it past 10 so im not sure)

now for the problem, if i ease onto the throttle at lower rpm's i sometimes see unacceptable knock sums, over 20 counts. if i go up a hill at low rpm, the knock count jumps above 20 in the same manner(it almost always does it when going up hills, but only on occasion on flat ground). on my way home from work i basicaly had to coast up a hill, because the knock jumps above 20 if i start accelerating, i was between 2500 and 3k rpm.

it seems like it does it when its under load, but i also get a knock spike on the log graph if i rev it up in neutral. but its never spiked over maybe 15 counts in neutral. it confuses the hell out of me, cause i get little or no knock when in boost or cruising at a steady rpm, but i see too much knock anywhere inbetween. even if im at speed on the highway, seeing 0 knock, when it changes from flat to uphill, if i accelerate at all i see knock.

mods are 650s, 2g mas, safc, 255 pump, afpr, fmic, 20g. low map is between -10 and -15 across, high map is the same as low because i havent gone WOT yet. i have dyno time schedualed, but its not untill next thursday, and thats the soonest i can get it on the dyno.
and if my o2 stays in open loop at all times, does that mean the 02 sensor is dying, or would it be something else like the ecu?

if you managed to "spoil" your turbo, you're in a little worse shape than you think. :p

thanks, ill check the timeing and subtract 5 from the base and see if it helps. my logger is messed up, and i can only view in graph mode and cant view numerical values, but judging from the graph its between 30 and 40 timeing when cruising, mid 20s if i ease onto the throttle and see a little boost.

i tunes the afc's hi map on the dyno, and the part throttle knock went away. but now, is tuned to a perfect AF ratio, but i get knock that increases with boost.
under 8 psi i see little or no knock, maybe 4 counts at the most. but once i hit 10 psi, the knock count starts climbing with the boost. at 10 psi i see about 14 counts of knock, ease onto the throttle a little more to 18 psi and knock is just under 30. the boost is set at 18, but i have terrible boost creep to about 25 psi(havent gotten a chance to put the external gate on yet, since i have to have the flapper welded shut for a manifold gate), and if it goes over 20 the knock goes close to or above 40. i try to keep off the throttle enough to keep it at 18, but it spkies very quickly so sometimes it goes a little over 20.

high map is between -25 and -28. i believe my fuel pressure is a little too high, at idle it reads over 40 psi, ill be lowering that later this week or this weekend, but i dont think it has anothing to do with the knock.

you guys still think the timeing is too high? i never got a chance to lower it, the holidays have been keeping me too busy to have time. these knock problems are really starting to get to me, i picked up almost 50 whp with the new tuneing, but i see so much knock i dont even want to boost it.

edit- and with my cams, i have to set my idle above 1000 for it to hold a good idle. would this affect setting my base timeing in any way? IE. the timeing reading differently because i idle 400+ rpm higher the stock.
