Coming off from a 530awhp 1g with single hy35 @ 33psi.
boost is great, powerband is great ON THE FREEWAY. but I want a broader powerband for street driving.
im contemplating on compound boost, it has always attracted my attention and this next project might just be the one. Ill be buildind this kit so cost will just be materials.
Yes i know i can go single and be done with but from what ive seen. power band is dam amazing on compound- i dont mind the extra effort if it delivers.
on to the question.
I saw 99gst compound built thread. and I noticed he used a 16g.
I was wondering if a 14b will give me what I want.
looking at the compressor maps looks like at around 15 psi it will flow 300cfm?
to match that I will need a turbo that flows double. and an HY35 looks like a very capable and good match.
I want around 500-550whp (rwd application)
I want the most broad powerband, earlier the better.
I will also be using a wideblock 4g64 block. so that should help.
im thinking 14b running at 10-12 psi and hy35 running at 25ish psi should net me what i want.(im thinking i may need less boost)
seems like a good match based on the maps of both(but not sure if im doing the numbers right
)
To bypass / prevent any back pressure im planning on atleast 50mm wastegate to control the 14b(which recirculates back to be used by the hy35.
hy35 will be factory everything down to the exhaust housing(t3)
this will be controll by 38mm wastegate.
my reasoning of using 14b vs 16g is spool. when i had an e316g it didnt come alive till around 23-25 psi, and at lower boost 12ish it pull pretty similar.(peak power would probably be the same at that pressure) 14b however came on faster
any thoughts?
this will be match with supporting mods ofcource
and run on SD and e85. with possibility of spraying water pre turbo to help reduce heat.
one last question. as far as tuning is there a deference in tuning compound vs single? I mean if I bring it to a shop can an average tuner tune it?
