ok, so ive been a frequent to this site for a few years now with all of my dsm's. but now im stumped. i have a 95 tsi auto with a 14b and a front mount. my car was running AWSOME after i did all my mods then latley and its gotten worse the car is begining to run like $hit. i can have my buddy preboost the car in 1st on the brake, i look all over the intake system and i can find no leaks. i keep feeling theres a leak but i cant find it. so when i take off from just a stop light and even at half to full throttle the boost goes up to 10(set at 15 with the boost controller) and the pedal down and the car creeps away from the line. WTF!!!!! and sometimes i i pre-boost it launches like a bat outta hell but mostly just creeps off at 10-12 psi, and still no rev up, and when it reaches say 3000-3500 rpm it backfires and stutters like a boost leak(not fuel cut) however ive noticed thatwhen i have anything less that 1/4 tank of fuel it is WAY worse. but it still does it on a full tank. i have done the fuel pump re-wire and im running low enough boost levels i shouldnt have a leak. ..........help

im running low enough boost levels i shouldnt have a leak.

Doesn't mean you should rule that out as a possibility. Make yourself a cheap boost leak tester and double check everything yourself. Can't hurt.

i made a boost leak detector, only im not positive where to put it, on the tubo inlet? i just dont wanna blow out any seals. and also how am i gonna know if i have a leak if its just going passed my throttle body. if i have boost why isnt my engine revving up? i rememberone time i accidently left my MAF disconnected and it build boost but didnt rev. could i have a bad maf?

Checking for boost leaks while someone else does a brake stand is a good way to get run over. You put the BLT on the intake. It does sound fuel related to me too, check your fuel pressure, maybe replace your fuel filter too.

Do you have the stock blowoff valve?

The plastic BOV on 2Gs.... mine leaks very badly, and when I lightly feather the throttle at low speeds, I can get it to start leaking, I go WOT, full boost, car just creeps along....

You may have the same problem...

1) Check for boost leaks
2) Check plugs/wires
3) Fuel pressure

What are you tuning with?

i have a crushed 1G bov. but that makes alot of sense if it is sticking open a little until it gets pushed hard enough to close then it takes off. makes sense to me.
ok so today i did a boost leak test. i put the boost leak detector on the intake of the turbo....the system just passed air through the throttle body im asuming. i could only get it to hold pressure if i held the air valve open to a certain point. it was just passing through the system, but i didnt find any leaks along the way.

has anyone ever had a sticking BOV?

oh, brand new wires btw. no tunning equip just a red knob boost controller :( (too broke all the time)

ok, so i tested my bov, its fine. just for the heL! of it i turned my boost controller knob up all the way....problem solved. i just have a $hitty boost controller. thanks guys

boy was i wrong. it got worse and worse again, even with the wastegate connected for stock boost it is now falling on its face when i boost, running rough, will stall or idle verry low, i did a boost leak test(i made a good one) and found no leaks. i ran with the wideband and the a/f was at around 12.3-13.6 at 8+ psi. WTFF IS GOING ON?

i have never changed the filter, im sure it needs it but why would the air/fuel ratio be good if the filter was clogged? and i forgot to mention that it suns better when its cold

and that pic was takin b4 i had my pipes made.

you said it was 13.6 : 1 @ 8 psi......a clogged filter could cause it to lean out for a sec & trigger knock which would pull your timing...just a thought ...Also it would help if you filled out your profile i'm guessing you have more than what is listed?....O ya I realized your in portland to... But it still sounds like you have Boost leak...

i did a boost leak test at 17 psi, no leaks. and if it was a leak it wouldnt get worse as the engine warms up. my profile is current. i have a snap-on handhelf wideband i run with to test the a/f ratio. anyone?

no logger? could be knock... like I said before you need to look at you timing on the logger and from what you wrote before it ... I could'nt understand what you meant. about how you did the BLT ... What valve? and passing through the system? I'm not saying you have a leak just tring to understand what you mean. also IT's a good Idea to set your motor a 30 ATDC when doing BLT

30 degrees after top dead? so the valves are closed? i put the boost leakt tester on my turbo inlet regulated down to 15 psi but i couldnt "inflate my system, it seemed to just pass through but i couldnt hear anything in my exhaust like air passing. so if i put it at 30 atdc it will close all intake valve? on my previous car when my knock sonsor melted it defaulted to retatred and i know what that feels like. this is more like it could be pulling timing, but i doubt it's from fuel. i have hooked the gas analyzer up to it sevral times when i suspected my fuel pump. ive tried sitting it overnight with the batt disconnected....no good. i thought maybee my throttle position, but then it wouldnt down shift properly and it does. then i thought maybee my maf. or i thought could my cat be clogged? i really am stumped

Hey fellow Oregonian, I had a similar problem, except after 15 psi I loss power and ran way lean and ran like crap. I changed fuel filter and still had the problem, so I changed the my evo 8 pump to an evo 9 pump and it solved the problem =D hope that helps. Could be injectors also?! Good luck.
