You see chin spoilers all the time bolted on to racecars using rivets. Anyone know where you can buy that material online?

Greg was telling me that he got his as a universal model from www.raceonusa.com who used to be a sponsor for him.

His is just the fiberglass version, although I can't find it anymore since raceon released their new "Hi-Flex" line of products. The last thing you want is a flexible flyer front splitter.

I've already ordered up my bracing from Longacre through HRPWorld.com but I'm still waiting to purchase the actual material. Another member is using 1/4" thick hard plastic for his. Of course you can also try your hand at fabricating your own with some help from various online resources. I think the website I was checking out was www.racingcomposites.net

Here's the supports I'm using.

3 total with the spoiler backing plates for the front of the car. then it'll also be attached to the base of the bumper and the base of the core support so it shouldn't move and at the same time seal off the front bumper openings and the radiator.

You could probably find out what it's made out of, I'm eventually going to call them to see if I can get them to make one of those out of fiberglass.

LoL... ...Yeah, sorry about that. Living on the beach is a hard life man. Our first SCCA event is coming up on the 20th of this month. Should be fun.

Oh, just one of those. You should be able to get that at either homedepot, lowes, or ace hardware. It's just generic gutter guard so any garden-type shop should have it.

I'm looking for the stuff that is made specifically for that application though. Not necessarily just the getto-fab solution. I'm sure the NASCAR guys aren't using the stuff from Home Depot.

Alot of the ones I've seen are either sheetmetal or custom laid fiberglass.

Most are homemade like previously stated. However there are things you can do to really make them nice. If you can find a really good hot rod shop, they can make you one out of Al ~.063" or thinner, and have the edges rolled. You can also get black abs plastic, and form it using heat, to give it the proper shape. Hand layed fiberglass would be very brittle and wouldn't be forgiving loading, unloading, and dips...

As for the ABS, I've seen them on so many pro and semi-pro cars that I just assumed there was a place that sells them. I didn't think they'd all be homemade.

I would not put it past some of the NASCAR drivers to actually be doing that.

Turns out RoadRaceGear made these air dams based on the fact that Hondas have factory air dams that allowed them to measure and build from. Since we don't have factory air dams they won't have a model to start with and can't make them.

The only thing I can think of is the photo I've seen here:

Anyone have any idea what car that air dam is made for? It's not for a DSM as far as I know. If we can figure this out we might be able to get this company to make air dams for us.

Chris, the pix you linked to, was from several years ago and it was the ABS type edging material. Utilizing a 1 1/2" aluminum angle brace behind it, it worked pretty well, and did not flex too much with speed. The one I now use, also utilizing the 1 1/2" aluminum angle brace, is fiberglass that comes in a roll and is about 5-6" wide. Both are "edging" but the fiberglass one, should be as good as any other straight fiberglass type air dam, and a lot less expensive to replace when when you have a few off road excursions.

Lane Automotive in Watervillet, MI sells "rolled plastc" that's 0.070" thick, 24" wide and 10, 25 or 50 ft long. The prices per 2006 catalog are $19, $45 and $87 respectivelly. They also sell 4'x8' sheets at about $40 for 0.070"thicknes sheets and $43 for 0.100" thick sheets. I have no affiliation with them. I would assume that any local circle track store would have similar stuff.

The front spoiler on the red car in post 17 looks like as if a spare bumper was cut, turned up side-down and attached to the original cut down bumper. If both bumpers were cut the same distance from the center of the opening, the two parts would match each other perfectly and could be attached to each other fairly easily. The spare spoiler would be as close and as cheap as the neares u-pull-it junk yard. It would be made out of oem quality urethatne. That's just mu $0.02 and I've been known to be wrong.
