Completely new to DSM. Could use some advice desperately

Okay so i've been searching around for a play car and i keep looking at stealths and the like. I think I found a 92 for a good price so i'm probably gonna buy it.

My question really is what are the common problems with these things. What should I look out for when I go look at it? Also what should i be prepared for that is almost inevitable in the future?

my speed shop manager at works really hates them, always telling me about how bad the trans is and what not. Are they really as bad as he leads me to expect?

no theyre not as bad as you think. dont buy a stealth, buy a dsm. with an old car be ready to do maintenance before you go fast.

if you find a clean one thats worth buying get ready to drop half a grand on a new timing belt, timing belt tensioner and water pump first and foremost

research boost leak testing and compression testing and run those on the car asap

Wait, are you looking for a DSM or a 3si (stealth/3000gt)? You're post is rather misleading, and both cars are quite different.

I'm going to get a 3000GT VR-4 someday, I'd never consider a Stealth - but they are mechanical twins, and no - like everyone says, they are not DSMs.

You need to have money to own one of those. You can get them cheap because there are a lot of them and most of them are broken or need major work and that's right when people unload them. Kind of like blown up RX-7s, another car I will own someday. It seems like you have to buy two of everything, turbos, heads, etc because the car is so complicated compared to a DSM, and it takes a lot of money to make them fast with less choices then the DSM platform.

I am only of course talking about the R/T (twin turbo AWD) model. The FWD model is like buying an 3G Eclipse GT, or V6 Stealth. Nothing wrong with them, they're just unspectacular personal coupes, akin to getting an Accord V6 coupe.
