Has anybody ever bought, installed, or heard about the 1G roll cage kit on DSM Parts. It's made by competition engineering which is a good company. My main question is how well do does the main hoop fit. I have heard horror stories about these kits fitting crappy. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I bought the s&w race cars kit and the fit was rather well and decently cheap.

My competition engineering cage fit like a glove. I had to spring the main loop a little and have the door bars bent but other than that, the fit was perfect.

Do you have any other pictures of your cage you can provide? I'm curious where the rear bars tie-in. I've been looking at this very same kit and they have a real good price right now--I'm thinking about clicking buy. Do you have to loose the rear speakers? How tight does the main hoop fit up to the headliner? Did you have to ditch the rear seats for clearance reasons? Any additional info appreciated! Thanks.

I dont see the point in having rear seats if you need a cage, but thats just me. Either way it looks like getting a passenger past the middle bar in the pic above might take a miracle.

Agreed. If you want a "show" cage then you probably can still keep your rear seats, using swing-outs and such.

Can you still slide the front seats all the way back and can you recline them at all? From the pictures this doesn't appear to be the case.

That depends in where the main hoop is installed, relative to the driver's seat. You can have the hoop as far back as you want, as long as it's no more than 6" from the drivers helmet when driving.

Installing a cage on a daily-driven car is a no-no.

Unless you always drive with a properly-attached 5 point harness and a helmet, that is.

It's actually less safe otherwise.

I have a couple more in this thread. http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192909

You can keep the rear speakers, I took mine out because I dont listen to the radio in the talon so it was dead weight.

The legs on the main hoop are too long and have to be trimmed. You can make it as tight to the headliner as you want.

I could have put the cage together to work with the rear seat, but the seat would have been usless. Again, it was just dead weight so I scrapped it.

The stock seats will slide all the way forward and most of the way back. The cage was installed with the seat in my normal driving position so there is no need for my seat to ever go any further back. And of course, the seats dont recline fully. You can lay them back a few inches but thats about it.

My car isnt a dd. I have put about 300 miles on it in the past 1.5 yrs. It also has a corbeau forza race seat and harness in it. Most of the time, it is driven with a helmet. It is still a street car but I cant drive it to the track because there isnt enough room in it for me, my wife, and my son. So, I put it on a trailer and tow it with my 4dr ford powerjoke. Then, if it breaks, I dont have to pay for a tow.

True--I've not had anyone get in my backseat in probably 2 years. It is more astetics--I don't really want the rear of my car sporting the stripped look. The cage--hopefully--can be well hidden behind B-pillars and other structure. A glance inside might not show the cage. The whole rear interior missing screams "racecar", a label I'd like to eschew--for a while longer at least. I can't quite bring myself to rip the AC out either.

does anyoe have a link for this cage, and maybe some prices. Install difficulty?

Wasn't saying that yours was; I was just throwing it out as a general warning to anyone looking into a cage.

I seem to remember reading in an older thread that your car wasn't daily-driven.

Does anyone know if the Comp Eng cage is NASA-legal? Just for Time Trials?

Maybe we should put together a list of pre-bent roll cages and specify which racing organizations they're legal for. I'd be happy to add them to our Parts Catalog for future reference.

It does tuck in nicely to keep from being seen easily. I also did a rear seat delet but I made some aluminum panels and covered them with headliner material so it would blend in better. It is dark here but I went out and snapped a couple of pics for you. And just for the record, my headliner and rear seat area are black to match the interior. I guess with it being dark and having a flash made them appear gray.

Can someone tell me why it's more dangerous? bars hit vital organs and such in a wreck? Just curious

Without a helment your head can smack the tubing, doesnt matter if there is padding there or not.

Im going to get a autopower bolton roll bar with the harness mount etc, its all you would need in a street car.

Someone wrecked and flipped there car on hondatech, they had autopower bolt in roll bar. The bar saved the guys life, so they work good for a prefabbed cage.
