Cold Starts, High Idle Prob

Just wondering what my car should be idling at when i do a cold start in the morning? I know its cold, so will idle higher than normal, but 2,300rpm seems excessive to me....it doesnt matter what temp it is outside, but when i do a cold start it idles that high till it warms up, then the idle comes down to around 1,200-1,300rpm....is this normal? if not whats my solution??

Hm...it was 20 degrees outside this morning when I started my baby up. She jumped to 1500 RPM as usual....and eventually worked her way down to her normal 500 RPM. Everyone else here is reporting 800's and 900's...what up with my low idle speed?

Im having the same exact problem as WildFire. On top of that I'm having idle surges also. Once at opperating temperature, it idles at 500 rpm's, then surges gradually up to 1,000.. then quickly drops back down to 500. Somebody please help me out here, the Talon's becoming a bit too much for me

Now that you mention it, mine also surges a bit, though not quite up to 1000. Its still a little too bouncy for my tastes though.

When mine idles it doesnt fluctuate at all, it sits firm at 2,300rpm, after it gets warmed up it idles at 1,200-1,300rpm........

But the question is, anyone know how to fix it?

Standard idle should be between 800-900rpms on idle. Startup should be 1500-2000rpms do to the car needing to heat up.

But my problem is when im driving. When I shift out of a gear to coast, my idle flucuates. From about 1500-1000 then 1000-1500. I am wondering if this could be a problem with my air intake. I am going to be getting a new intake soon. But I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and that could be the solution.

I thought my idle was bad at ~1200-1300 when cold, then dropping down to around 800 when warmed up.

Unfortunately when I put my foot on the clutch or downshift to neutral the rpms drop to almost 0 and it trys to stall.

My car 91 does the same thing, so did my previous 92. Even my moms old toyota and my neighbors 4 cyl contour used to do it. I always thought it was normal of a 4 cylinder until it was warmed up.
Except for the fact that it abruptly drops 500 rpms like some of your all's do (1500-1000) until its warmed up. Only really bothers me when I'm leaving the college parking lot and my car is idling like a banshee, with my exhaust just screaming.

Halo should not have anything to do with cars. Oh wait , sorry saw banshee and thought Halo. I hear alot that you should idle your car around 800-900 and to change the idle after running your car. And while it is still runinng change the idle.

Which is what I did and I love the idle on it. But I wonder why it still fluctuates when I nuetral the car and coast. Then when I come to a complete stop, it doesnt fluctuate anymore.
