I have a 1984 F250, 351w 2v, with the Ford EEC-IV ignition. It is burning through coils. Any ideas why coils would go bad? They go bad at different rates. Usually really quick. Like under a few hours. If not in minutes. The truck has a new ignition module, main computer and distributor. I was told that there is no ballast resistor on this truck, though I don't know if that is true.

I don't know, is it supposed to get only 12v when starting, or also while running? I need to check that.

And another one bites the dust!

Well since my last post twenty odd minutes ago I lost another coil.Luckily I found a shop that carried it for $46 and not the $80 I'm used to. I'm not 100% positive it is toasted, since I haven't tested it yet, but it was putting off some gnarly looking smoke. All I did was hook it up, turn the key to the on position o that I could check the voltage to it...

You guys know that point where mad goes away and you just start laughing? I hit there a while ago. I almost find it humorous to watch $50 smoking awy in front of me.
