so I have read a lot about this but am lost and have yet to resolve. I have a 98 gst and my clutch suddenly got soft. fluid still full tried bleeding no luck. when I first take off ill have pressure after I bleed then slowly pedal gets softer while driving until it will not shift.(while the pedal has pressure it shifts perfect) if I pump a few times it will go into gear but have too pump every time. after research found that it could be slave and or master. replaced slave first since it was cheaper and bleed system no luck. so ordered and installed master and bleed still no luck. no leaks that I can see and fluid level doesn't drop. ive tried gravity bleeding, pump and release and reverse bleeding, taping lines, pressing in slave, adjusting clutch everything helpful I could find but still no luck. any input would be much appreciated .thanks

Have you tried adjusting following this guide? Proper Clutch Adjustment - YouTube
Sounds like you have alot of air in the system still and or your not bleeding it right. Also we're did you get your replacment parts and what brand?

I dont know how the system works too well on these cars but my one car had a pin hole in the rubber seal between the rod that connects to the pedal and the clutch master cylinder other than that it could be the rubber boot on the slave cylinder in the same way.

Did you bleed the whole system and then the slave itself?

Edit: hate to say it, either go OEM or go home

I had english racing in camas install a new "master and slave" and both were Not OEM and now the master is leaking and giving me problems shifting into 5th with a brand new tranny build.

It will be worth it, please get OEM master and Slave. aftermarket parts "try" to get within spec of OEM but OEM owns ALL.

That is how I adjusted it. So I beleive that part is right. I purchased the parts from autozone so they are duralast(close to home next day pick up and lifetime warranty.) I have tryed every way I could find to bleed the system minus bench bleeding. Only because I didnt know this way until after already installing parts. But I am open to any tips/advice I have had the car around month and have only drove it for about 4 days. My wife isnt too happy LOL.

I had my wife asist in pumping and holding the pedal while I opened the bleeder. Once all was good there. Took bleeder out competly then pressed slave completly in and then reinstalled bleeder while still holding slave in. Everytime I bleed the system I can drive across town shifts perfect then on the way back I have too pump to gain enuff pressure to get in gear. Where a good place i can order oem, im not aware of a dealer around here.

did your wife pump and pump until slight pressure was achieved and you then bleed it? was the bold part while she was holding the clutch pedal to the floor? and yeah auto zone parts suck majorly - - -> read this How to Bleed a Hydraulic Clutch - Team Rip Engineering

oem parts:
jnztuning.com

extremepsi.com

or a vendor on here might have oem slave and master

If you still have the stock little canister mounted to the transmission that holds a lot of air in it. Usually you'll have to go through a little bottle of brake fluid before you get all of the air out

Yes she pumped until she got pressure then I told her to hold it all the way down and hold. Open/closed bleeder and she would let go. We bleed like 4 bottles of dot 3 doing so. And I do still have that canister on the tranny. I was thinking if all else failed try a mc to sc braided line from extreme psi. Whats a site I can order parts that are not junk?

See the sites u listed now haha thanks small phone screen.

So replaced the slave again and installed a extreme psi master to slave braided clutch line. And while bleeding. Crack! My clutch fork broke. Could a cracked cluch fork have been part of my problem and also should I go oem or does it matter on the clutch fork. If oem where should I order from. Im also gonna go ahead and replace clutch and tb. Any suggested clutch? Thanks

Is it common for the fork to break between the piviot ball and the slave or is that another issue?

Did you verify that there's no holes or leaks in the hoses/tubes between master and slave cylinders? Perhaps even when you're pumping it and getting pressure again at times, you're pulling in air bubbles also.

I am sure even to be positive I replaced the line with a complete master to slave bs line from extreame psi. I now have replaced the slave 2 times the master and the line its self the pressure plate clutch disk tob and clutch fork. And bled it for more hours than I can keep up with followed the suggested youtube video to adjust the clutch everything. And still losing pressure idk what else too do! If anyone has had this happen to them and knows something to fix it please help me out this car is driving me crazy!

second the bleeding, similar to breaks a little air in the system will scare the piss out of you at a stop light, learned that the hard way

I had the same problem with my old eclipse replaced master and slave still wouldn't bleed right still soft but we adjusted the clutch pedal and it did the trick and bleed.

It's pretty much the same as any other hydraulic clutch system. :thumb:
