Mine is leaking inside the cabin

I just went to pepboys and got a reybesto master rebuild kit

It was only like $9 though, wtf?

But it looks complete

Part number cmk1271

just a simple rod with a slot in it, rubber bushings at both ends, a spring, a clip and a rubber boot

thats all i need?

\Ever had the seal on your 1g awd slave cylinder blow out? Don't wanna blow $40 plus on a whole new one? Well, they sell rebuild kits for them. However, I couldn't find any rebuild kits for the 1g awd (3/4" bore) They had them for the 1g fwd (13/16" bore) After a little research I came to find out the 3000gt VR-4 also uses a 3/4" bore slave and come to find out the local parts store has rebuild kits for those. So I went on down to the local o'reilly's and bought the 3000gt vr-4 rebuild kit for the slave. Exactly the same piston/seal~! Installed it and bled the clutch no more seal leakage on my newly installed ACT 2900 The best part of it is the rebuild kit cost me $7.36 Why buy new if the slave isn't worn, the seal is what I'd consider the wear part in this situation.

So i want to know if it is worth buying and rebuilding the slave cylinder or should i just buy a new slave cylinder all together?
I am currently leaking from the master cylinder onto my floorboard so i will be replacing that at the same time.
thanks

Rebuild both, its cheeper and the end result is the same withought the high price. Look in my build and I rebuilt 2 of the masters and 2 slave, very easy to do i can walk you through it. Use JNZ to buy the rebuild kits there the cheepest place to buy them and its factory mitsu parts. Its worth it trust me.

i have no problem w/ rebuilding them, i just was thinking if the cylinder the shaft slides in might be scored/scratched so a rebuild kit might just be a waste.
A new unit is another $20-$30 on top of the rebuild kit so im leaning in that direction seeing as the lil bish needs some tlc not just a temp fix.
I was debating on dropping the trans also to drain and refill w/ fresh oil. I also need to replace the rear motor mount so this would be a good time to check for damage in the trans. What should i look out for when inspecting the trans?
I was going to get under the car and look at the slave today and see if its leaking &/or pushed out to far. What else should i look for while im looking at the slave cylinder?
Time for more research.

There is no metal on metal contact in the slave or master. Its your money spend it how you want but i dont think ists a smart idea.

i read some other thread here that said the MC had taken damage so i just didnt want to have to do it twice you know what i mean:thumb:
I am not trying to waste my money either, im not ballin' so to say. The MC has 50k+ miles on it & looks brand new, no leaks on it, it just leaks from the inside of the car.
BTW do you have any pics from when you rebuilt yours?

Personally, I don't think you will need pictures. It is self explanatory when you take it apart. You will need to pull off the rubber boot, remove the lock spring, and disassemble it. You will be inspecting the bore and piston for wear, scuffing, etc., and then replace the two o-rings, spring, etc. and put it back together in reverse order. It isn't bad. If it is just leaking, it usually only requires a cleaning of the cylinder, and replacement of the o-rings and reinstall it and bleed it.

I have done many over the years on different cars. It isn't hard, and it only takes simple tools to do.

So if there is any scoring i shouldn't rebuild it?
So have you come across any that were badly damaged? Did you try to rebuild a damaged MC? And if so did it still seal up tight after the rebuild?
I guess thats my project for this week.
I will document and post a thread on rebuilding both for anyone interested.
