Ok.... I just had a new clutch and Act flywheel installed, but im getting frustrated with my car. It has to be forced into 1st and reverse, which causes it to grind very loudly. Also when it starts up it sounds like something is rattling in the transmission but it stops after a minute. But when the car warms up its easier to shift into 1st and reverse but it still grinds slightly. I had the wrong clutch master slave unit on it and replaced it,now its even harder to get it into gear even after bleeding the clutch. I've looked countless times online and everyone says its possibly the throw out bearing and I had a new one installed with the clutch/ flywheel. The TOB isn't the original Mitsubishi TOB though. So if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.:banghead:

If the car is only shifting into certain gears then it not likely to be a TOB problem. The throwout bearing is used to press on the diaphragm springs to release the friction diss, if the throwout bearing was back or the clutch pedal needed adjustment (WHICH IS DOES NOT, WE HAVE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS NO NEED FOR ADJUSTMENT) it would grind going into all gears. The clutch would not fully disengage for any of the gears.

I say it is either a shift fork problem, or a synchronize assembly problem. Also check the shift linkage, they have a balljoint at the bottom that likes to go. Also check the thrust washers in the shifter assembly.

I would also check the fluid level in your tranny, maybe its time to change the fluid. I use Diaqueen lsd gearoil, oem FTW.

When you are driving/cruising, in any gear does you shifter move at all?

To check the shifter linkage ball joint, they are near you transmission. Right above the trans. The areas on the linage with rubber boots, have the ball joint in them. I believe they are greased in there. If there is a grinding or a hard to move ball joint, kinda stiff it could be bad.

clutch pedal needed adjustment (WHICH IS DOES NOT, WE HAVE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS NO NEED FOR ADJUSTMENT)

This is absolutly not true. Yes we do have a hydraulic system, but it also most defently needs to be adjusted. #1 issue most people have is improper clutch pedal adjustment or they didn't bother/know to adjust the pedal after a new clutch is installed, this is a must.

Check out RRE tech tips (Road///Race Engineering Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts and Performance) on clutch/flywheel info if you haven't already. Jacks transmission has a good video on clutch pedal adjustment. & if your looking for the best, in depth description of how master cylinder/clutch pedal adjustment works, go here: Eclipse Clutch Adjustment

I had the same problem!!! I had to literally slam it into first and reverse just to get it in and it would grind!! What I did was changed the tranny fluid to the pennsoil syncromesh and adjusted the clutch so it grabed higher. That fixed my problem. Hope it helps!

I actually tried adjusting the slave cylinder and it didn't adjust the free play. When I was adjusting it and it actually didn't really fix anything and I followed the video, but i'll try it again tomorrow. I got a lot of other things done to the car so im happy some what.
