hey every one i been thinking about starting a project with a cluster that i have laying around i need every one's opinions and specially every one's help.

my idea was to change the cluster bulbs, but after doing some research i thought this would be a good idea,

replace the stock boost/ stock oilpressure with this gauge.
<a href='http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6137d.jpg'><img src='http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2884/6137d.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

replace the stock fuel/ stock temp, with this gauge.
<a href='http://img204.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6116d.jpg'><img src='http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/500/6116d.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

replace the stock techometer with this gauge.
<a href='http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=01e91.jpg'><img src='http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/5749/01e91.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

replacing the speedometor with this gauge.
<a href='http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6289.jpg'><img src='http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6376/6289.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

so this are all the gauges im think about replacing.
after seeing a cluster project's i figuerd it would be possiblem.>>

i have found people that have done this, I just haven't found a write up on how to do this and what problems on doing this could be!

Question?

1- Will this after market gauges will read just as good as the stock ones?
2- Will this gauge be an easy thing to do or it takes more then just a regular guy to do this?
3-will the other lights and warning lights work?

My plan was for to gut the gauge cluster, taking out the gauge that I would be replacing leaving everything else.

Cutting out just enough to fit the gauges. Run all the wires "throw one of the light bulbs" needed to make the after market gauges work.
And then hooking up the correct wires for the speedometer, tachometer and fuel and temp.

As for the boost wideband and oil pressures I already have all 3 on a gauge podpilar.

And the out come of my project would be this; it was just a fast copy and past just to see how it would turn out.

<a href='http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0196.jpg'><img src='http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/161/img0196.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

i hope some one can help me and all comments are welcome.
thankx

The temp, oil pressure & tach will be relitively straight forward as far as functionality & being accurate, however, The fuel level guage & speedometer will require somewhat unique calibrations in order for them to be accurate. It`s a cool retrofit, & I`ve seen it done before, so I`m sure with the correct calibration instructions & info, along with some patience, you`ll get it to work well . . .

well i figured that as for the calibration the gauges showld come already, but if not im sure it wont be to hard to do it.
as for the temp gauge, i just want to be right is the the water temp gauges the replacment for the stock coolant gauge?

and also befor i by the tech and the speed gauges i want to make sure its all stright forword, as for wireing and i dont have to do anything with the silk film on the back of the cluster.

some one got a wright up or know how to do it and can gide me please do
thankx.

I have been searching and I got the gauges measurements the water and fuel gauge are 2' 1/16 the tachometer and speedometer come in tow sizes 3' 3/8" and 5'.

so I decided to make some templates out of cardboard, I found out that the 3' 3/8 they will fit on to the 4' stock gauges "place", I would just need to make something to hold them in place sense they are smaller then stock, as for the water and fuel they are bigger then the hole's but sense the speed and tech are smaller then the holes I can bring them up just a little it would look like this.>

<a href='http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0196.jpg'><img src='http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/161/img0196.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

with the 5' one I would have to cut allot more + trim the cluster trim itself and maybe over lap the gauges in order to fit.
Make the smaller ones stick out.
It would look like this

<a href='http://img152.imageshack.us/my.php?image=copyofimg0196.jpg'><img src='http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/9978/copyofimg0196.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

to me they both can look, im only worried if the 5 is to big and covers the warning lights and makes me cut in to the gauge face, in the other hand if I get the 3in one im scared that it will be to small and will look bad.

Hey I'm doing the same thing you are right now... Good call on the cobalts, th ey look killer lit up... Here's my current progress. The regular size gauges fit great in the stock holes, you just have to take a knife to it to open the hole up like a mm! Not as much as you think. I mean when you get the gauges start test fitting. If you take a knife and start cutting small strips in a circle to make sure it stays even... or even use sand paper... its not much. The fitment will shock you.

Also, dunno if it was said already cause I don't like reading, These gauges will do alot better, because your stock gauges don't read good at all. They are horribly inaccurate.

well thankx guys. first im doing this to a cluster that was laying around so i still have my stock in case it looks like a$$.

as for fitment on my cluster it will be difrent sens my small gauges sit on the bottom and the cobalt gauges have a lip.

i order the 5in tech today it might be in thursday i will do some test fitments and ill post them, i want to know if some one as done this to a 2g cluster?

the techometer and the speedometer are 5in but there hole size is 4" and 5/8 do you guys think ill be able to stll mount the 2 smaller gauges under them for the water and fuel?

I like that idea, looks pretty straight forward, the wiring would confuse me as I am still learning.

any info on how it was all put together?

also does any one know of any one doing this to a 2g cluster?

hey guys so today "saturday" i got my tech and speedometer.
over the week i will be working on the cluster, and ill make sure ill take pics of the progress.

hey guys so after some cutting and fitting i got some pics but also some problems.

<a href='http://img9.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0197z.jpg'><img src='http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7082/img0197z.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

this is the speedometer, it doesn't look to bad, i just need to fix the gap.

i also have some problems
1- the side where the techometer would go it's got tow bumps, is there a way to trim them down?

<a href='http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?image=copyofimg0199.jpg'><img src='http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/5218/copyofimg0199.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

2- the silk screan on the back, is it possible to trim it maybe cut in to it?
it gets in the way, and also if i get to cut down in tow the bumps. will it affect the screan?
i just want to make sure all the other warning lights will work.

<a href='http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0200z.jpg'><img src='http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1037/img0200z.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a>

here are some more images please i need every ones helpppppp.

well im not sure yet, my friend is going to help be install it, the gauges comes with nothing and i need to make a harness from scratch.
it does'nt look to hard, its a 12v/ignition, lamp, ground, and out. Also i got this speedometer sender it showld be really accurate.

Auto Meter

but if any one knows a better way and easyer way to do it please let me know.

hey guys so after a long week working on this night and day, i can say its almost done.
i stil need to do some sanding and some touch ups but its 95% done.

as i said befor i did it to a cluster laying around, its harder then ### it looks.
here some pics ill make sure ill make a right up on it.

the gauges are not yet in place and fixed to stay this is still test fitting.
I will be making 4 rings one for each gauge and glue it to the face, so the gauges can be flushed and not have the space shown on the image's above.
i thank every ones opinionand, and also if any one can give me some ideas to make it better looking
thank's every one.

The gauge cover was all in plexy, the fineshed product I wanted it black so befor I painted I masked where the lights would be.
After 2 coats I placed all gauges to see how it looked, also I wanted to see how the lights looked so I shined a flashlight on the back.

There's still some touch ups to do, thanks every one.
I'll be willing to make more, any takers for my?:thumb:

one of the resons I wanted to do it was becouse I have never seen it on 2g, I had nothing to lose, if it didn't work out the cluster was free plexy was free, only the gauges was cost.
I still have my stock cluster in case, I get tired or some one makes me a offer.:thumb:

why wouldnt they work right?

the screan on the back of the cluster was not toched and its going back to where it was and so is all the light bulbs that are needed for the right warning light.

now , i know cruse controlle wont work, becouse i dont have it but i dont see why the others wouldn't.

the fuel gauge uses the stock fuel sender unit.
water temp uses a prob that comes with it or i can just run it to the stock one.
speedometer and techometer, i havent looked in to it that much but i know i might need a
"Magneto Signal Converter" for the techometer and "Hall Effect Speedometer Sender" for the speedometer.
