I just recently purchased a 93 eagle talon from a friend and for about 3 weeks the car ran fine. on the fourth week it started chugging in first gear, serious CHUGGING it was jerking when driving slow so i asked some people what it could be and they said a number of things that didn't help. On the last day it was acting up BIGTIME i didin't know what was wrong, i pulled in to my parking spot, put it in reverse and it shut off COOL! now the car wont start and all i hear is a clicking noise when i turn the key. after a few troubleshooting ideas we found out that the clutch master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced 50$ later the clutch works YAY! but the car still wont start. Checked the ground and starter wires and replaced two and still nothing. Ive already put $ GUESSING WHAT IS WRONG. hopefully somebody on here can help me.. Thanks

I'm sure everyone here will first ask if its turbo or not so we'll get that out of the way now. Is it a turbo or not? second, people are going to tell you to look over general maintenance. Start with plugs, wires, etc. There's always the potential for your timing belt to have jumped or broke. I know I went through a little chugging issue myself and it was my intake pipe. Check anything along the lines of the MAF, pipe, filter and even clean em up. And thirdly, there may be a few people that ask you to do a compression test to see if maybe some rings gave way so maybe look into that. those are my suggestions so look over basically spark, air, and fuel. has the fuel filter been replaced recently or at all? could have a fuel clog. report back if you find anything along these lines!

not turbo and battery is good i think the chugging was caused by the clutch master cylinder but i cant be sure now cause the car wont run LOL but yea the wires look good

Did you check to see if your battery was charged? If it does have a charge but it still will not start, try jumping it anyways, you could have a bad spot in your starter. The jump will push your starter through the spot until the next time it lands there.

"usually" clicking equals starter or battery. Have you checked those yet?
how do u check the starter?

tried to jump it.. still nothing

by chugging you mean like jerking? kinda liek if i put it in first stomp the gas then let off really fast chugging?

check your battery and your starter

i know on my uncles 383 he has to get under his truck and tap his starter for it to work sometimes i laugh like hell when he does too ROFL

You can "jump the starter" and try to engage it but if you can do it, I would pull it off and go get it checked. If it's bad you already got it off and just need the new one. Parts store will check it, or throw some batt cables to it (OFF THE CAR) and see if it spins (not really reccomended)

A few weeks ago I had the same issue. Turn the key and click, but then nothing. The battery was only a few months old so I tested my alternator with my DMM. It was reading 0 volts, so I replaced it and it fired right up!

If it is indeed the alternator, I suggest getting a Galant VR4 alternator. Its 90A instead of 65A and it bolts right in. The only thing you have to change is the alternator fusible link. Buy a 100a fusible link to replace the 80a. Its only like $3.

Brand new alternator in it already 300$

snag a breaker bar and tap that sucker. if she starts, you got a bad one. clicking always means starter to me. if it were the battery i would think it would be really slow cranking, but i suppose that's not always the case. i would just pull it off and go have it checked.

yea everything is light up bright like Christmas radio works gauges and lights are bright headlights are on i don't think it would be the battery either. but u say.. u hit the starter? then try to start it. like just SMASH IT. or im sure there is a spot to tap it lightly i need a lil more info before i go under my hood with any bar or mallet

LOL no don't smash it! give it a couple love taps on the solenoid. you don't wanna hit it too hard because you might actually damage something. but don't "hit like a girl" either. find a nice middle ground. but yeah you wanna hit the solenoid itself, which is the small part not the big part. (i'm not trying to make you sound like a dummy or nothing, just some folks don't know what the solenoid is)

Just throwing this in but when I have had this little problem before it turns out to be the simplest thing and youll probably laugh. Go under the hood and disconnect your battery cables from the posts. Use a wire brush and clean them till they are good and shiny then use a thin layer of grease or even vaseline on the posts and the cable ends on the inside then reconnect them and make sure they are tight. Also check your cables and make sure there is no corrosion in them where the bare copper is coming out. If this doesn't do it then your starter solenoid is probably bad and youd need a new starter. Do as mentioned above and tap lightly on the starter dont SMASH it ### you will indeed break it if you hit it to hard. See if that works and let us know. Good luck

k cool, i was just kidding bout smashing it by the way. trying to make light of a frustrating situation

will do!

hopefully i dont need a new starter thats two things that went same time... STARTER and clutch master cylinder.. Go figure..

Thanks again

Tell ya what, if indeed you do need a new one then take it off smash the hell out of it and go get the new one. When the parts place asks what happened tell them for some reason it wouldn't start and you just thought you may need a new starter. That's what I would do LMFAO but im a smartass like that! LOL. Hope ya get it figured out and if it is the starter that went too I feel for ya but in our world if ya wanna play ya gotta pay man. Good luck

Also check the clutch switch. I had an issue with mine and thought it was the starter.

Not completely ruling that out but I doubt it'd be his clutch switch because when he turns the key it does actually click so the current is flowing through to the starter it's just not turning over. Still may be worth checking though. :thumb:

Even with a bad clutch switch you will still hear clicking in the car. Just fixed that problem for a buddy of mine. Unpluged the switch and the car started right up.
