I just got a new DSM today and the hood and side clear coat is peeling off pretty bad. The bad besides in those areas is actually quite nice, and i'd like to make the car look as good as possible so i can turn it around and sell it.

What can i do to make the peeling CC look better without screwing up the paint on the car?

Thanks!

If you have some experience with wet sanding and applying paint I would say to do it yourself, if not then take it to a body shop. You could possibly make it worse unintentionally and end up paying more in the long run. Do it right the first time, trust me.

My only experience is doing a "poor mans paint job" on my 94 Prelude, which required a s**t ton of wed sanding and foam brush painting. My roommate has an orbital buffer, could i get a "rough" pad and apply rubbing compound to try and get it off?

Take it in and have it painted. The paint under the clear is going to be faded as well. Unless you can paint I would recommend having it professionally done.

Maaco is not bad, it's just a chain, and chains offer cheaper solutions with less labor and less detail involved. You will get the same thing as any other body shop if you pay the roughly the same. You get what you pay for.

^^ This. By the time it gets to this point the paint is already damaged. Sanding and putting another coat of clear over the top will get rid of the white fade line but the paint is still damaged. If your looking to sell it either leave it how it is or Maaco is your best bet. They will fix it for cheap and it should look decent for at least for a year.

+1

Macco isnt that bad, yes its a chain, but they are mostly independently owned, each offers their own quality. Look up some reviews. I have one out here in CA that was awful, the old owner sold it last year and now (under new ownership) it puts out some great work for a good price. If your willing and able to strip/sand it and tape it off you can have them just spray for you for less then $200.
