So I'm painting my timing belt covers. motor mounts, an water pipe to a gunmetal because the kid who had them before me painted me a weird green color. I've gotten them all painted back an looking really nice, my question is should I clear coat them before I reinstall them.

With spray paint I wouldn't bother, you can for durability, but it usually fades anyways. With real paint it would depend on if it's 1 or 2 part paint. 1 part no, 2 part yes.

What are you using for the water pipe, automotive exterior paints sometimes fade there color when they get in the 2XX degree range. Sometimes there good till 3xx but it seems to vary.

The heat resistance go up with the cost
normal ( acrylic enamel?)
urethane <-lasts longer, shines nicer.
polyurethane.<--stuff is like... spray on kevlar vests. LOL Supposedly unbuffable, but I've buffed it shiny. They used to paint airplanes with this.
