My dsm runs fine for awhile then when you put it in neutral the idle surges and the check engine light flashes on then off a few seconds later then the idle is fine....until you turn it off then it has no battery life at all. Got the battery tested and alternator they were fine. Ran and drove good. Now its doing it again! Any ideas?

Could be your idle control valve also check for boost leaks anywhere.[DOUBLEPOST=1410616665][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh and as for the battery issue I'm not sure. If your battery and alternator are fine it could be a sensor or just some lose or brittle wires somewhere. The idle surge and bad electrical wires can cause the check engine light to come on.

start simple check battery terminals and make sure they are not loose and clean. make sure the ground and power wires from the battery are tight and have good clean contact. check the alternator cold and hot, i replaced at least 3 alternators on 1 of my dsms, but 1 only failed when it was warmed up. u could unplug your idle air control and see if anything changes, and check it for resistance and compare to spec.

I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago, it's the phantom light. As soon as u touch the gas pedal it's gone. It ended up being my TPS. the sensor was fine, but one of the connections inside the plug was pushed back and not connecting. Also check out your IAC,

Usually a code 21 (temp sensor) does this trick of sudden idle surge and a flash from the CEL while sitting at the light.

I had it also, but (now this is extremely odd but can see it now ..) after a starter replacement, the issue completely went away.

Only thing that I could come up with is that a bad starter was draining some current out of my system giving me my Code 21 and CEL.

Temp sensor, being the smallest sensor was giving the ECU wrong information causing the CEL making the ISC to purge up the idle on occasion.

Big time - it was ready to go. It was cranking slow and where I had just put in a new battery where the old one couldn't hold a charge. I knew right off the starter was on it's last legs when it does that.

Since the changeout, absolutely no problems, nor CEL isses and the vehicle just rambles down the road in great fashion...and gets me 26mpg on the freeway at 75mph.
