Check Engine Light!!!

ok, so i jus put a freshly rebuilt motor in my 97 talon. cranked it, and the CEL came on. come to find out i had two codes pop up : p1494 (mechanical fault) and p1390 (timing skipped a tooth or more). i fixed the p1494 but the other code will not go away. mechanic assured me there was no way the timing was off....### do i do???? i need to get it smogged! ps. car runs lyk a champ....

you timing can be off by a tooth and still be driveable, do your checks with someone else to get another opinion if you dont trust him your your own.

try and reset the ecu by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about 30 mins

I agree. Get a second opinion. Also you might have a bad sensor.

well, i trust that the timing is right. also i even had the code cleared byt the OBDII scanner and it still comes on....would disconnecting the battery work, if that doesnt?
