did a few searchs on this forum as well as google. ive owned my 97 eclipse for a few years. during this time the check engine light has come on. ive recently noticed the smell of gas behind the car and under the hood sometimes. had a friend who works for a local garage do a fog test for me. he said fog was pooring out of the throttle body where the spring is. and he also said my egr was shot. so i figured id search some on rebuilding throttle bodies. this car is a 97 eclipse 420a <rs> i poped the throttle body off and started to dismantle it. i couldnt find a seal kit for a 420a. however i read somewhere i think that the 4g63 kit is the same as the 420a throttle seal kit. there is a o ring where the tps goes but when i poped the shaft out i noticed on the spring side of the pin there is only a bearing. doesnt appear a gasket would even go here. this make much since to you guys?
thanks

This doesn't make a bit of sense to me . What does your mechanic friend mean by fog is pouring from the tb?? I'm not very familiar with the 420a engine, but most EGR valves are located below the intake manifold with vaccuum lines running to the egr solenoid and tb. You should be able to either block off the egr or buy a new/used one.

As far as the seals you mentioned, they would not be the same between a 4G63 tb and 420a tb. For one thing the TPS is located in different places on these 2 tb's. You might be better off buying a used tb off the classifieds. I still would like to know what he was talking about with the fog.:)

fog machine. you hook it up and put pressure on your emmision system. where the fog leaks is where your leak is

thats what im working on. hes saying my evap leap is due to my throttle body. he said being fog from the fog machine came out the throttle body thats my leak. he said it poured out behind the spring on the side. this make much since? and could a bad egr make a evap leak? i mean the car runs good and strong. and never had a minutes problem. idles good. and i took it on a road trip this past weekend. got 35 miles to the gallon in it.

im trying to fix it:) im just asking about the throttle body and would the egr system cause a evap leak? he said its leaking bad behind the spring. i took it apant and dont see a seal behind it. is there suposed to be? or should i keep looking elsewhere for my evap leap? i dont want to start tossing parts at it that it doesnt need.

the EGR valve is part of the emissions system, so if the EGR Valve is bad it will through a CEL code, replace the egr valve and clear codes, then run it to see if the CEL comes back on if it does pull the code and go from there.

An air leak at the throttle body isn't going to set an Evap code; it's definitely a problem, but it isn't responsible for the code. You want to inspect your entire Evap system: fuel cap, charcoal canister, vapor lines, and associated solenoids/sensors. The system needs to hold pressure in order for it to function as intended.

good point Avionixx, the gas cap could probably be the problem, when i first bought my 2G the CEL came on and it had the EVAP Leak code, n replaced the gas cap and it fixed it, but of course with my luck i ended up getting a problem with the EVAP Soleniod, but deff get your gas cap checked at your local shop
