check engine code 43 (egr) help

i need some help in fixing my egr valve prob. for good. i found out the check engine light is on for a code 43 (egr). i put the block off plate on there and disconnected the neg. battery terminal and the light went off cause the ecu reset itself. well, thats all cool and everything but i want to fix it to where im not disconnecting the neg. battery terminal every other day when the light comes back on. is there a fix. my car is also a cali car i think if that matters.

-Make sure all the vacumm hoses are connected to the right spot, the temperature probe is clean, also check the solenoid on the firewall next to the fuse box(by brake fluid resevoir).
