Cheaper to buy a downpipe?

Ok, I was thinking at one time of making my own downpipe. I almost want to just for the pride of ownership. But looking online at the cost of parts, it seems almost cheaper to buy one. Those 3" flexible sections are expensive. But I guess it'd still be cheaper then buying one of the "nicer" more expensive store made ones. Either way, I've got a hydraulic pipe bender, Tig welder, the works, (I'm a shop teacher, the school has the works ;) ) I just think the cost of metal these days puts a hurt on fabrication.

I got a megan racing downpipe off ebay for about 95 bucks shipped. It is a really nice piece and I would highly recommend it. It is 2.5 inch where it bolts to the turbo, and then transitions nicely to a 3 inch right after. You can also get ones that are 3 inch right away, but I don't really like those since the o2 housing is much smaller than that anyways.

Yea ebay has some really cheap options for exhaust parts. I get what your saying about making it yourself, that pride you get after its done and then that feeling of really getting something done when it works just like you thought it would. But with how cheap some of them are I wouldn't take the extra time to make it myself, when in the end the only difference is that pride you can take from saying you made it, and the extra love you put into it. But there's the reasons right there why you would want to make it yourself. Your good either way, just one option is gonna take a little more time than the other and might be a little cheaper.

I also have the megan racing downpipe and I think it is great for the price also. It starts off as 2.5 at the o2 housing and within 3-4 inches of the housing transitions into the 3 in before the flex section. If you just want to fabricate something to say you done it, then go ahead. You will have to figure the price of the pipe, flex section, flanges, bolts, and gaskets that come with the megan pipe to what it will cost you to buy it peice by peice. Not counting your time
