Center of Steering wheel wont go back on right!

Guys I need help, Searched for about an hour and came up with nothing. When I took my steering wheel off to change out my dash I got everything put back on except the DAMN center of the steering wheel. Its just wont go on right. Ive spent hours bending, trying, punching, hitting, smacking, prying ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! Im fed up, It seems like it wont go all the way down, and when I tighten the screw from underneath it just makes the center pop up ERRRRRRRRR Im to the point where im gonna jerk the SOB off and replace it woth a Grant or something, anyone else ever had this problem?

Did you make sure the tab under the top of the steering wheel cover is slipping back into the slot for it? That, and the screw on the bottom is all that hold it on.

You're sliding it on, from the top to the bottom?

yes i tried sliding it down, it fits into the grip on top and the bottom grip with the screw all lines up well, but i let go of it and it goes back up, it wont lock into place. it fits but what actually locks the thing in?

Well, the screw holds it there, but I wonder if you're trying to use a wrong screw. Are you sure it's the one that came out of there? Are you going in at the right angle?

I wish there were pics of how this was done, god somethings just gotta be bent. Screw it guys dont bother ima just blow more money on a new wheel n stuff

Sorry about the trouble you're having.... I just removed my dash without even taking the steering wheel off. If you remove the steering wheel housing at the base, under the kickplate there are 4 bolts that allow the steering column to drop down to the floor. Thereby allowing you to remove that dash with the steering wheel on quite easily. I know...probably too little too late, but just thought I'd mention it for others who plan to change their dashboards.
