So traveling 80 down the interstate my rear end decides to lock up, then release then lock up agian. After cooling down for a bit it will drive normally agian. This was about a month ago. Never diagnosed the issue it was intermittent. Now I have a horrible rumble between 3-5k rpm, any gear, under load (especially on incline) Seems to be on the driver side for the passenger mirror does not shake. The shaft doesn't have normal indications of being bad (clicking loudly/play) I have not had it on a lift to see if the wheel jumps. Any ideas? or anyone had similar problems? Anything will help....
P.S. Both tires have bald spots where it locked up..

Most likely its your transfer case not you rear end check you fluid in the T-case, there is a recall on them and mitsu is required to repair or replace them

So here's the skinny: The motor, tcase and tranny(all JDM) were all replaced 1000 miles ago.. Everything was fine at first.. Now however, the rearend has locked up 3 times and there is TERRIBLE vibration throughout the car under load.. Enough to make a cd skip.. Just got car on jackstand to see if a wheel was jumping or something.. To my surprise the tcase is jumping horrendously, rest of driveline seems fine. This is a new transfer case so it isnt the actual tcase. All the motor mounts are new and good... What would cause the transfercase to jump enough to shake the drive shaft and make this vibration?

Just wondering exactly why there is a center diff on these cars... And, what are the symptoms of one that is bad? And what is the lobro? Forgive me for my ignorance....

So I am replacing my differential in the transmission.. I have a real chunky sound when i rotate wheel and a loud bang under power... Anyways, Im following: Center Diff
which are really good instructions, but.... Do I have to pull the front axles? it seems I do but they are not in the instructions..

thanks i got that far... the fork wont slide off.. and there are 3 little teeth? they fell out trying to pull it off.. what to do with these? and the last gear looks like a series of gears together... Do they need to be marked? all come off together?

thanks... got that off... what are the 3 little teeth that came off? and the last gear looks like a series of gears together... Do they need to be marked? all come off together?

So I have read every thread I possibly could.. they all say: Next step: remove center differential... BS.. How do you remove the center diff.. I removed the eight bolts that one thread suggested and well yea now that spins freely, but it doesnt help to get the sucker off.. much thanks

I have done everything on the first page.. verbatum, even labeled baggies for the ball and springs incase different sizes.. I cant get the differential out.. How to get it out?

Christ guys... common, thats what i followed to get to where im at.. I have done everything it says.. the diff will not come out.. How to get the diff out after all that is done?? :banghead:
Thank you though.. Been a rough day..

There is nothing else that holds it in. You took the ballbearing out of the center diff to remove the output shaft out correct? Is the trans in the car or out? If the trans is in the car and you haven't taken the output shaft out most likely the shaft is stuck in the T-case

What happened to the trans?

Edit: How many threads did you make?..

the trans is in the car.. I have to take the tcase off? thats simple enough but its not in the write up.. also all i do is pop the ball out correct?

because it is easier than taking it out... I would have to take it out.. and then do this.. why not do this and omit taking it out.. the kicker is i just had the motor and trans out 2 months ago! it really isnt difficult just time consuming.. and some of the instructions are unclear..

Update: How does the ball in the shaft come out? I put a punch in there but it doesnt seem to do anything and im scared of breaking something..
