Ok so i've had my eclipse will start up on it's own sometimes and will start up with carb cleaner all the time and it won't hold idle. from what i've gathered the problem is the camshaft position sensor, but i need to know for sure because i'm trying to sell my car. anyone else had this problem? i need to know ASAP! thanks! :thumb:

HINT: if you can start the car on carb cleaner its most likely a FUEL related problem and not the CAS. Look into a pressure test car should run 37psi 1g turbo, possible filter replacement and or fuel pump.

If the 1g fuel pumps pre prime whenver you turn on the key try cycling it on then off several times and see if it will start. This will only work if the pump primes initially whenever the ignition is in the ON position. Im no 1g expert just trying to help out.

And to stray away from the above topic the ECU wont throw a code for weak fuel pressure. Unless it directly affects another part of the system ONCE you get the car running.

it's not the stock turbo and idk if that could have something to do with it but as far as the fuel system goes i haven't done anything with it except buy a new OEM fuel rail so the fuel filter is very likely clogged.

as soon as i get it out of the shop it's at i'm gonna change the fuel filter and then see if that changes anything and i'll change the pump too if i have to. oh and before ya'll ask the shop it's at all the guy knows how to do is 4x4 stuff so he can't do much which is why i gotta get it out of the shop

Well tell that shop he sucks. Get your car out. Change the Coolant Temp Sensor, do a boost leak test, and check the fuel pressure (via gauge or tester).

the boost isn't leaking from anywhere it's all sealed good and i don't think there would be a fuel pressure issue ### it's got a brand new fuel pressure regulator on it

Well If you having to start the car off the old can then it is a fuel issue no if ands or buts about it. The ether is replacing the gasoline in the fuel + fire + compression = combustion equation. Have if your way but I would check into Fuel Pump Filter or possibly a faulty MPI.

You should be running 37psi at the rail on a 1g

Good Luck

i'm not saying it's not a fuel issue i'm just saying that i don't think it's a PRESSURE issue, but i'm definitely gonna check the filter and pump

well i'm currently putting the advice to the test. as we speak i'm replacing the fuel filter and seeing if that makes a difference...if not tomorrow i'm going to replace the fuel pump! thanks for all the help guys! i'll keep ya'll posted :thumb::hellyeah:

Dont just change parts, figure out for sure what the problem is, seriously check your fuel pressure, then power at your pump you may have a bad relay who knows.

judging from the condition of the car when i bought it ###### needs to be changed anyway. how do i check the fuel pressure?

Install a fuel gauge or have a shop do a pressure check. Lines not holding pressure could be the cause of it not starting. Or even a sensor/relay. Engine Coolant Temp sensors cause our cars not to start MOST of the time. SO if its starting with STARTER FLUID, chances are its definitely a fuel problem.

ok well since i have no way at the moment to check the pressure i'm just gonna put a regulator on that i have and see if that makes a difference
