Ok... I have a 1992 Eagle Talon 4g63 N/A...... This car is stock.. no mods except for the pace-setter header.....

Here's the deal.. In january i received the car as a payment for electircal work in a friends car. At the time the car wasn't running. I replaced the hoses to the radiator and did a flush.
Replaced the,
Battery, Plugs, Wires, Coil Pack, O2 sensor, Oil filter, Oil, and a couple of random plugs that needed replacing..
After all of this was done, the car ran fine.. i drove it for about three days and then found out what the real problem was. Water was spewing out of the water pump like no other..
And now the fun began.
Pulled the motor apart and replaced the water pump with a new one, replaced the timing belt, alternator belt, and powerstearing belt. When i put it all back together i made the mistake of doing the timing waaay wrong and slapped all 8 intake valves.. :ohdamn: . instead of replacing the valves alone, i just replaced it with a new head completely. i sent the head out to have it decked and plained.. got it back and put it on the car.. There was a point where i have now done the timing on this car at-least 8 times. everything is right. I set all of the timing marks according to spec, the motor is at TDC before i put the belt on the Cams with the lobes facing up.... So, the timing is right.
I have re-checked all of my work, i replaced the fuel pump relay, and a couple of other random relays that i thought were the problem which weren't..

THE CAR JUST WONT START.... WTF
It gets fuel to the rail, the pump works like a champ... it gets a great spart from the coil.... it gets the air that it needs.... injectors seem to be good... i have two sets.. NONE OF THE INJECTORS ARE FIRING THOUGH......... i have searched this site and many others inside and out for a solution... i have checked the service manual, chiltons manual, and haynes manual and still NOTHING...... this car is possessed......
I believe the main problem here is that the injectors are not firing...
Does anyone know what my problem could be or if you have ran into this same problem? i'm at a loss and have no more solutions.....
I cannot find any resistors, fuses or anything else that tells the injectors to fire.... the only thing i can think of is the MPI (computer).... maybe it's bad.... but maybe something else too?????????
Help please......

+1 on checking all that stuff. :rocks:

There is no resistor pack on the 1g N/A since it uses High Impedance injectors. The MFI relay controls the pump, if the pumps coming on with the ignition then the MFI relay is fine. The CAS and ECU control the injectors to fire them, first I'd try testing the CAS to see if you can get the injectors to fire by spinning the rotating assembly.

How to test the CAS
Remove the CAS from the head and spin the rotating assembly while the key is in the "ON" position. When you do this you should here the injectors pulsing, after you re-install the CAS check base timing to 5*. If the fuel injectors fire when you spin the CAS then the CAS is working correctly.

thanks.... i'm just new to this car and it's motor so i don't know a whole lot about them..... i'll check the CAS and see what happens... i have two and i'm going to pick up a third today...
since i'm new to these cars i don't know anyone who has one.. i've alwyas liked them and decided to jump into it when the car was given to me..... if you know anyone in the pacific NW around seattle that would be willing to help out with an ECU, send them my way... i just can't afford to go out, over and over taking chances, buying ECU's from people and hope that they work......

just so i get it right, if the injectors fire when i rotate the CAS by hand then it is bad, if they dont fire then, the CAS is good?

when i plugged in my other CAS the injectors fired but the car still didn't work... i ran a compression test and i only had 60psi in #1, 75psi in #2, 45psi in #3 and i didn't even bother to check #4 at that point..... dang..
now i think i'm going to have to send it out for fixing.... guess the rings are washed...
Anyone know how to fix washed rings without tearing down the motor?

The PAC NW has its own forum that you can post in and start meeting new DSM'rs. Pacific NW DSM'rs

If your injectors aren't firing, and since you don't have a resistor pack because your N/A, you pull the CAS and spin it manually. If you spin it manually and they fire that means your CAS is working and the next thing I'd check is the ECU.

Your compression check is a FAIL, so I wouldn't even touch the ECU at this point. Theres no way to fix piston rings without dropping the pistons out, the oil should smell like gasoline too if the rings are washed.

He did.

UPDATE***
took the car to a good mechanic friend....
Even though the rings were washed and my oil smelt like a gas tank, he got the car to fire and run for about a minute yesterday. then shut it off.. He is working on it a little more today and he says it should be up and running by this evening.. This is all without tearing into the motor... he's a magician... i don't understand how he did it, but i'm not complaining..... i get to take it home, where it belongs....

on another side note.. i just picked up 1995 4g63 GST yesterday. i'm stoked to get this one done now... anyone reading this know where i can get either cheap 1g 6 bolt blocks and cranks, or just a 6 bolt crank for the 2g...? The engine is torn down completely and i am making her come alive again..

Lol... I just had to laugh when i went back through this post..... oh... my 1g Talon N/A... How much pain and money you caused me...... LOL

As far as that car goes... I'm pretty sure it's being melted down for recycle right now or already has... The thing just didn't work... period.! we got it to run and go down the road.. but the compression wasn't where it should have been... it was a waste of time and money so i just let it go and cut my losses... I have heard so many stories from people about trying to figure out "ghost", "mystery" problems and never getting them solved... so i stopped chasing my tail and took it to the wrecking yard..... The only thing i regret is that i didn't keep any of the parts... That was dumb. oh well...

Now i'll just keep building my 400HP 2G and go from there... Almost done!
