So recently I’ve been having problems with my 99 eclipse Spyder GS.

Occasionally when I turn on my car it’ll sputter very harshly for a second or two and turn on, rev up to approximately 2000 Rpms and go back down and die.

This has only happened twice in the past week and I turn on my car multiple times in one day. I have noticed it has happened on relatively colder days but I’m not sure if that has to do anything with it as it was 20 degrees this morning and it started just fine.

However when it does happen, I crank once or twice with the same problem, crank once again 5 minutes later and turns on just fine and stays running, and doesn’t turn off at red lights.

I’ve had problems with the battery before but I’ve just replaced it less than a year ago. Battery terminals were severely corroded too and replaced around the same time as well and it fixed my problem before when it just wouldn’t turn on at all.

I am running a cold air intake and a cat back exhaust and it’s an automatic.

From looking online it could be a crap load of things but from what I’ve seen it could either be:
- MAF sensor
- idle air control valve?
- fuel pump
- maybe bad spark plus wires?

Would really appreciate some help or tips. Sorry if I’ve typed too much I’m trying to convey as much information as possible to start off as my first post on here.

Solution
Look at the fuel pressure regulator to see if it is intermittently leaking fuel back into the tank when it shouldn't. Fuel pressure should be maintained for days when engine is off but won't with a leaky FPR.

Okay sounds good, Thank you!
