Ok so i f'd up. i sprayed my enginge down with degreaser and sprayed it clean with a garden hose. i covered up the maf sensor and removed the maf and air filter to do it, now when i start my car it ildes fine. but when i drive the whole car shakes and runs like crap. I was thinking boost leak maybe or did putting water on the engine f it up.. Let me know what you guys think. I appreciated the help. I will be doing a boost leak test to check it out tomorrow for sure but i doubt its that.thanks again.

1998 tsi with fmic stock turbo.

I washed it at 4pm and let it sit until 8am the next morning. then i drove home. (about a 10minute drive) then it sat from 815am until 2:30pm. so total it was like 22hrs. I thought that would be more than enough.

Check the plugs for water as well as the boost leak test. Check the plug well for water too.

I've degreased all my cars and sprayed them with the water hose. Key thing is to not do it when engine is hot, let it dry for a while and avoid spraying any electrical components like the alternator. I would double check the plugs like liquidx said and a boost leak test.

+1 on check your plugs. I've had my TPS sensor come loose and the car ran with a studder for awhile without a CEL over it. Think back to everything you changed on it before it happened. And think about the intake you took off, make sure all hoses are connected, etc.

i will definately check this first thing. everything was hooked up correctly though.

When you took the filter off, did you cover the intake tube to keep water from getting to your turbo. Also if you used high pressure that sometimes loosens connectors so check to make sure everything is connected and dry

I took off the whole intake tube and covered the turbo. Also i just used a garden hose with my thumb ove the end.

engine wasnt hot at all. i didnt eve move it to wah it.

Did you make sure you plugged back in the maf sensor?

Now that you mentioned it i m going down to look at it now.LOL i dont remember for sure but i think i did. Would my car run without it being plugged in?

Just checked Maf was indeed plugged in so that was not the problem.

Its still not fixed.... i pulled the boots still letting everything dry it and hitting it with the air compressor.

Its now fixed completely. i bought a 1dollar sponge from pepboys cut it into small pieces and crammed it in with a flat head screwdriver. pulled it out with a needle nose.hooked up the plugs and good as new. thanks to everyone who helped. im so relieved now.

hahahah busted.LOL so car ran great for like 10min. now theres more problems.... car stopped studdering like it was and now its having a hard time building boost. turbo has some shaft play in and out and side to side so that may be on the way out.but now everytime i go to push down on the throttle to build boost it backfires and like a machine gun and feels like it doesnt wanna make power.im starting to get really worried

yea i figured as much, ive got my 20g on the way already but those symptoms match up with a blown turbo right? its not just me being paranoid? Also whenever i push the throttle all the way down, ill flash a cel, as soon as i let off the gas itll go away. im going to get it scanned tomorrow, but any thoughts on what that could be?

i will start testing all the connectors tomorrow and greasing them thanks

Did you check your firing order?
Make sure you put the wires back in the correct order, also check your plugs for corrosion.

The CEL could be a variety of things, but I would be led to believe it will help you find the culprit though. It's possible it's detecting cylinder misfires or reading a bad TPS sensor.

when i get it scanned tomorrow will it read? because the light doesnt stay on...tomorrow im gonna change the plugs, the wires and check the tps.

firing order is definately correct. i drew a picture of it before i pulled the plugs. im lame! But for sure i know its correct.
