I have a 90 eclipse gst that starts vibrating around 5000 rpm and doesnt feel like it can go any higher its all stock as far as i know i havent done anything to it idk if the previous owner did but i was wondering could it be the balance shaft out of time the engine mounts or a very bad boost leak i can still drive it just cant realy get down on it iv been trying to search for my problem on here but every one iv seen says theres does it at 2000 to 3000 rpm it is a 5 speed i wana do a boost leak test but cant find any good instructions on how to do it. any help will be nice its my first dsm and i like the car i dont wana have to get rid of it because of the vibration

Does it vibrate at 5k rpm if the car is in neutral sitting still? Or just when you're driving and the rpm gets up to that level? Check the harmonic dampener. It's attached to the end of the crank and drives your accessory belts. If the outer ring is loose, there's your problem. If it does it while you're moving, it could be a wheel out of balance, a caliper hanging up...

Yes it still does it while sitting still what other stuff could it be besides the harmonic dampener

I've also had a broken pressure plate cause that problem. Make sure the timing is correct. Also, if you just got the car and don't have proof as to when the timing belt was last changed within the 60k mile recommended change interval, change it. Take out the balance shaft while you are in there. The balance shaft might have been removed by the previous owner already. It causes a little more vibration mostly noticable at idle but when I removed it from my 99, I couldn't really tell it was gone. Also, like you mentioned, check your motor mounts.

I read in other forums that the balance shaft could be just out of phase idk how to check all that stuff out like i said this is my first dsm. if its just out of phase how would u get it back right again i wana start with easy stuff first.

Also wouldn't hurt to check the motor mounts too. The car is 23 years old, i doubt if they have ever been replaced. I have a 93 GSX and all of mine where almost gone.
