I've searched but couldn't find a answer. I have a 1995 eclipse GSX 7 bolt. My car was running fine until the alternator took a shit a few days ago. So I got a working one today and put it in. I went to have the alternator checked at advance auto and they said it was in good operation.

I started the car up, it ran for like 10 seconds really rough (it sounded way different then normal) and then died.

At first, I thought it could be that I accidentally messed up the firing order in the spark plugs. So I rechecked everything (4123 order ignition side to 4321 cylinder side) and it still wouldn't start. I tried jumping the battery and still nothing. I tested voltage on battery and it seemed normal. (12v with car off)

It will start for about 2 seconds and sound really rough then die. Giving it gas doesn't do anything.

I'm really stumped. I know that the alternator probably has nothing to do with that's why im really confused why it's not working since I haven't touched anything else in the last few days.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm sorta leaning towards Cam angle sensor because some people described that kind of engine operation being related to it but I don't understand why it would be any different since I haven't driven the car in those two days and everything was working fine.

I had a similar problem, it turned out to be the cam angle sensor. It happened all of a sudden like you said and it did the same thing (turn on for 2 seconds and then stop). Only thing that sucks about a 95-96 eclipse is that the cam angle sensor is on the intake cam. you have to change your timing belt to replace this sensor. You could see if your injectors are pulsing when you are cranking. I did the stupid thing and threw a bunch of parts at it (fuel pump, wires, plugs, MFI relay). Hopefully this helps and good luck.

also if this is any help, i noticed clicking noises by the intake manifold while the car was off after trying to start it a few times.

I also had spark to my coils even when my cam position sensor was out. See if your injectors are spraying by or if you get a power pulse to the injectors when cranking. This will tell you if your ignition timing/fuel injection timing is off. More testing = easier to help with possible diagnosis,
