Hello all. 90 eclipse gs turbo. No modifications done.
The car started up, idled for a few seconds and then shut off. Thereafter the car will crank but not start. We pulled the connecter off the fuel rail and verified the fuel rail is pressurized. We replaced spark plugs and wires. We performed resistance checks on the ignition coil and they were all within spec (for the most part. we got 1 ohm of resistance where we expected .77 to .93 and I believe that is probably within reason)

I tried feeling for injector pulse while we turned the engine over, but did not detect any. We checked the spark plugs for fuel, but there was none. We checked the spark plugs for spark, but did not see any.

The most confusing indication of all... This happened 3 months ago and the car sat while my little brother saved his money for repairs. I jumped the car to begin diagnosis and (surprisingly) the car started right up and ran for 3 days before the problem came back again. Both times the failure was the same. The car ran for a second or two and then shut itself off and refused to start again.

Is there some possibility that there is a security system that cuts ignition? I only just now thought about that. I'll check that one out myself but in the meantime, I am hoping to get a few suggestions for next check.
Thanks in advance.

Pull the ECU and open it up to check for the capacitors leaking.

Steve

Your caps in your ECU are leaking onto your board which is cutting off your fuel and spark. Like Steve said take out the ECU inspect it for leaking caps and either find a new/used ECU or talk to Steve about repairing it.

thanks for the quick direct help. Leaky capacitor was an in joke in my division on my submarine, so I got a quick laugh out of this.
Hopefully I will be able to pull that out tomorrow.

Well I don't see the problem, but I can smell it. Ugh.

edit: oh theres one bad one. C108

It doesn't look bad otherwise. It's hard to see the normal places it leaks because of the angle. A direct top down shot helps but from this angle it doesn't look like it's started eating up C14 which is one of the first things to get ruined.
