...i drove off and the batttery grounded out to the hood and now it wont start...could i have killed my starter?

Since the battery short circuited to ground, you might not have any charge left on it.
Bring it to Kragen or any store that tests batteries free of charge.
If the battery indeed is dead, try charging it first before installing. Make sure the liquid is at the proper level.
If charging does not help, a new battery may be needed.

I doubt it damaged your starter. Do all the lights work when the key is switched on?

If you have several items not working then check the large fuses 70-80 amp mains. The Alternator probably tried to keep up with the huge short and it could have fried the diodes but hopefully it's only fuses.

If this is going to be an ongoing problem you can make a small cover from a tire inner tube or similar material for the Pos terminal and then contact cememt or double stick foam tape some foam to this so it won't make a dent in the hood.

the lights on the car do come on...all of the idiot lights...the car gets power the ecu is getting power(i can hear it click)...

i checked all the fuses off the battery the 3 on the terminal and all the ones in the fuse box in the engine bay...all are good...so now that i think about it i thinkl it is a dead battery as its like it has no power when i turn the key over...to start that is...everything else works fine...

the car also when it drove felt like it had no power...

Argh, nutting like doing the obvious.

If it was not shorting and it was still feeling like it had no power then in all probability the Alternator, the large wire B+, or the main fuse is bad. You must have power to the Alt at all times the battery _is_ connected. If you still get no charge then the diode pack is shot and will need replacing.

You can use jumper cables to start the car, if after a minute of running and they are removed it wants to die then you have another problem including having damaged the battery.

GTM
