Car Stalling???

Im looking into buying this 95 GST and when i was driving it when i downshifted from second to first the car just died. We bump started it and made it back and replaced the battery and checked the alternator and they were both good. we took it out again and the same thing happened shifted from second to first and it died. this is only happenin when shiftin from second to first. Any help is greatly appreciated. i also forgot to add the air/fuel guage couldnt decide if the car was runnin rich or lean.

Try checking the spark plugs. and plug wires u never know.
