I am buying a 92 talon awd that sat for 10 years in the owners garage and he is finally selling. I am using it as a shell to swap in a build motor to, and I plan on using that motor in it to put in another 92 talon my brother is getting dirt cheap. So considering it sat for that long what would I need to do ensure that the motor will work properly in my brothers car, I figured we need to drain it of oil and all other fluids.

Other issue is I plan on keeping the stock trans, tcase, and rear diff. Again I was going to change all fluids/ filters but is there anything else I should worry about?

I'd do all the maintenance. Timing belt, fluids, etc. Treat it like a brand new motor, prime the oil system and everything prior to starting it.

Brake lines, rotors, pads, coolant hoses, sensors, air filter, fuel filter, drain tank, drain and replace oil, pull mpi fuse and disconnect coil and turn the car over a few times prior to start. Might not be a bad idea to check the ecu for leakage. Change plugs as well. Replace diff and TC gear oil. Change trans fluid. Timing and balance belts, all pulleys and tensioners, accessory belts.

I just went through this with one of my build. However, my car sat in the woods for 7 years. Same deal, nonetheless.

I bought a 90 awd tsi earlier this yr second owner with original window sticker bone stock. Car sat for about. 7 8 yrs rat nests everywhere trust me ## gonna have to replace some gaskets and sensors. Rubber hoses etc and once its running more problems occur. Mayybe just me but my car is a SHE DEVIL

Funny story, I actually have a 93 auto AWD that im about to pull the motor from here in jax, fl (I actually drove it down from Chicago to Jacksonville in October). Im about to make the drive up to Chicago for the holidays. I'm more than capable of towing it with my truck if there is anyone who seriously wants the car. Not looking for much out of it, just to cover cost in gas for the trailer/gas and i would call it even. The car currently runs but like i said im pulling the motor, trans stays with the car.

AAnnnnnd nobody is serious.

Ok so I am picking the car up tomorrow, the only issue is that the owner said it wont move at all, it is in neutral and even three people cant move it. He is saying he thinks the calipers are seized, so how would I be able to move the car so we can push it onto the trailer.

Node how much do you think it will be cause the other fwd car sold out from under neath us and my brother still wants one.

If its sat for 10 years undo the ebrake cable..It might just be stuck..But rocking the car back and forth may work..The brakes should brake loose after some rocking.

My ebrake cable got stuck after being on for a whole year..Some forward and reverses in the car, and it came unstuck.

Thats unfortunate, I already pulled the engine from that car (yesterday in fact) and its already been sent to the wrecking yard (didn't have room to keep it). Literally 1 day too late in your response.

About your current situation.

If the calipers are seized then You will obviously have to find a way to seize them, either that or you can jack it up and put the car on rollers then pull it onto a flatbed.

But honestly if its that bad, I would wait to find another car, it sounds like that one might have a fair amount of rust on it (I may be wrong because it hasn't moved). How much did you pay for it. It's none of my business but im curious.

I have not payed for it yet, but he wants a 1000$ for it, and its been in a garage, not outside. He said it is rust free. body and everything, even underneath. I am going to look at it of coarse before any money is handed over. But he said they cant push it at all. I seen pictures of it, its is primed and has a body kit on it (which will be the first thing I take off). There looked to be no rust. but like I said I am going to look at it first before anything.

As far as the motor since my brother in no longer getting his car I will probably part it out, considering I have crate motor sitting in my garage for it;)

Seeing as how you live super close to a friend of mine, if you are parting the motor out, he may need odd parts (maybe) while he is putting the engine into the car. If you pm me your number ill be sure he calls you first to buy any odd parts from you (if you arnt using them). He will be putting the engine in sometime around the 23rd (probably wont be done for a week though)

Also his brother has a talon tsi as well, he would be interested in anything performance related.

$1000 isn't bad. Fortunately ill be picking up the shell for my friend to drop the engine into from a town in Indiana for $1000. The shell comes with a newly built 2.3l with forged rods/pistons, all for $1000. Of course im going to have to tear down the engine a little to inspect it but in all it was def worth the price.

If you need help while im up there I can lend a hand for a few hours on the 23rd-24th. After that ill be riding back to Florida.

Fine, first one to Aurora, IL gets first choice. :sneaky:

jk, im not trying to buy anything anyway, just wanted to see if i can help some of my friends meet some local dsm guys and possibly generate some business for the OP.

I mean the OP and his brother are trying to get dsm's, and my friend and his brother both have dsm's but they're just getting into the game and are fairly clueless.

Its like... DSM fate.

Same guy with your old 3kgt? ROFL.

If the calipers are seized then it sounds quite rusty...
I wouldn't buy it. It could come back to bite you in the ass in the future.

I would love to make friends with your friends hahaha, I need a few misc parts to fix my current talon for DD, and other various parts things here and there from that car but for the most part Ill be letting the motor go, either as a whole or parting it. As far as I know I am keeping the intake piping, turbo, probably CAS, TB and water neck. Thats all I can think of I might keep.

Im also getting a 90 eclipse tomorrow for parts:) my mom is going to be pissed.

As for the winch, cant I just connect chains from the truck to the cars tow points and pull it out that way? I am renting a trailer and I dont think they come with winches, and I am trying to keep this as cheap as possible

No, but i wouldn't be surprised if you do know Vinny. I was talking about a different friend though.

Also it was a Stealth :)

If he ever builds that thing, its going to be a monster. It already has a RPS Carbon Carbon (twin disk) clutch, DR stage 3 Heads wit high rev springs/retainers and 1mm oversized valves. Also a Kormex LSD. The manifolds from the DR800's are still on there so just purchasing the turbos is going to save a ton of money.

My winter car only sat for 3 months with the e-brake on and it was seized enough to drag the tire down the road. We just jacked it up and hit various spots with a hammer and it knocked the rust loose. You probly will need to replace the calipers anyway after all this time (dry-rotted seals) so I wouldn't worry about hitting it too hard or anything :p

Let me see if I can even move it, if not im going to have to pass on it and go to plan B, which is another awd shell I have waiting for me hehehe. I thought getting the full car would be the better choice.

Like I was suggesting, use the car rollers (dolly) but just be careful.

PM me your number and ill make sure they get in contact with you.

You wouldn't believe the kind of deal you could get on a rolling chassis down here in the south, and with no rust.
