transmission sat for 5 years

I got a 97 eclipse gst and I bought it with a blown motor and all the parts were out of the car, nothing of the engine was together. My uncle just got it running for me about a week, but started driving it two days ago. The car sat for 5 years or longer and I'm having trouble with the transmission. It's a manual transmission. When I drive it the gears grind mostly in second and after it gets warmed up it slips third and fourth most the time. Have any ideas how to fix it or what might be wrong? Thanks

It could have been a shotty trans in the first place?
I would change the fluid and try and put some miles on it and see if it improves any. If not, it's probably time for a rebuild or different tranny

+1 on changing the fluid. if it was apart who knows what might have gotten in it. everything adjusted correctly?

My uncle put a new slave cylinder in and master cylinder for the clutch, and some new gear oil. An there is also a new clutch in it. He adjusted the rod to the master cylinder he said it was too close to the floor. Do you think lucas oil might help the gears?

Yeah, definitely make sure the shift cables and clutch are adjusted properly

Whats the shift linkage? An he took the o ring off the clevis pin on the clutch pedal, think that would hurt anything?

Look on top of the trans. Make sure it's intact still.
