Car running, car not running...I dun get it

Ok, car was running just needed a little tune-up, we replaced fuel filter, water pump, and o rings. When we went to do the Fuel filter and do the timing, it would not start after it was all back together. I know there is fuel(I could smell it on the plugs) and spark(it arcs

Pretty sure timing is way off, it turns over but wont start at all. Not even trying to start...just turning over...back fires sometimes. Its a '90 TSI.

Could someone help us with the timing? We have the shucks book and we checked the timming tons of times just having trouble getting everything to work. Any ideas? Suggestions? HELP ME NOW!

if you removed the t-belt to get to the waterpump, i would make sure all the timing marks lined up right. Sometimes people don't check all the marks
