OVERHEATING? The issues and their solutions have remained the same- either you don't have enough cool air reaching the rad, there's a cooling system obstruction which is preventing coolant from circulating, or your head gasket has failed and is allowing coolant to be consumed or pushed away from the engine.

Discuss all possible overheating problems and solutions here.

OK,
I just left my house to go over to my GF's,and happen to look down and see my needle right before the red mark. This just happened out of nowhere. I stop the car as quickly as i can, and pour in some coolant(Coolant a little low). Still same thing. Welp im in the middle of the road, and HAD to get it home. Im only 5 min from my house. I decided to try and make it(I really had no other choice). Welp I drive no faster than 20mph, and the temp needle is BARELY into the red the whole way.And occasionaly to the left of it. Am I ok?? Do ya think any damage was done?? And im thinking either thermostat, or water pump. For each of those, whats a round about $$ figure to get replaced?? Any info you have would be GREATLY appreciated!

I just got a fully built block and head from slowboy racing. I have a pocket logger and my coolant temp is over 200 degrees constantly. What might be the problem? There is only 260 miles on the engine and it has never been taken past 4k rpm. Any suggestions?

The stock theromstat will let the car run at that temp it should open around 190 but most don't until 195-197 you are fine as long as the car doesn't go up passed 220 or so, if you are really nervous about it as some water wetter, by NX express i believe, to your coolant.

Would a 160 degree thermostat work? I think my GReddy FMIC is hogging up some of the air that the radiator should be getting.

No. Thermostats only keep engines warm in cold weather, and regulate when the cooling system comes into full-play when starting from cold. If you're already running the stock 195° thermostat and the engine's running at 200°, a 160° thermostat won't make for more cooling- the 195° is already fully-open.

Although blocking some airflow, a frontmount is also feeding warmer air to the radiator. Your turbo will be putting out more than 200° air when working, and that rejected heat is going straight across your radiator. The airflow issue isn't as crucial- the nose of a car is hogging up gangs of air.

Well im not a engine wiz but ive seen some car with that problem. They have a new engine and its overheating. From what i remember there was a air bubble in the coolant pipes or tank(something like that) They drained it and re filled it and used some gauge too. Sorry for the lame answer but thought it might help.

I just got my talon back with a new jspec engine in it. It had been sitting for a very long time before that. The water pump was leaking so that was replaced and now the car is overheating. There was alot of dirt in the water so I flushed the radiator out. There wasnt even a thermostat in the engine so I left that out. The car is fine it just very slowly gets hot as i drive. The fan works I just dunno what it could be maybe that dirt that was in the radiator clogged it up a little ?

Dude its ####ing hot and leaving the thermostat out should make a difference except for when the car is warming up right ? I was told by someone on this car it will make it run hotter but I never heard of that.

I can im just trying to figure out why im overheating first is the fan supposed to blow away or at the radiator ?

its suppose to make air go from the front of the car into the engine compartment. if the fan is infront of the radiator then it will be blowing towards the radiator, if its behind itll blowing away.

Alright, I've fought and fought with my overheating problem for a while, and replaced everything, yet it still overheats... Then, last night, I thought of something that would be easily overlooked..

Can the cooling fan be wired backwards, so that it spins the wrong way, and draws hot air out of the engine bay, and through the radiator.. It almost feels like hot air blasting out of the front of the car, but almost none through the engine bay side...

I get 192* coolant temps while cruising, but it creeps up as soon as I slow down to a stop and sit... I can't believe I would miss something this small, but I don't want to go trying to rewire everything if the fan does only spin one way... Thanks for the help!

What type of fans are you using, most aftermakret fans are push/pull fans you just have to switch the wires around, that's what it sounds like. Later, Keith.

Yup Just what Keith said. Most aftermarket fans are push pull fans, def. check out the wiring and what not and get back to us.

Ok ok ill put in a thermostat but that isnt gonna solve my overheating problem I think that dirt that was in the radiator when i got the car might have plugged it up so i just bought a fluidyne radiator so i shall see how that goes.

Yes it will. Think about it. The thermostat is there for two reasons. The first being to block flow untill the engine is at nominal temp. The seccond is to SLOW the flow down so the radiator can do its job. If you have 215 degree water FLYING through the radiator, the contact time between water and radiator is very short, thus keeping it at ~215 degrees. Now put a restriction in that line, it gives more time for the radiator to pull the heat out of the water. Simple Thermodynamics. ;)
