OK I have a 95 Eclipse GSX with a 93 motor in it and the problem is that when I turn the key it will try to crank over, but when I remove the key from the ignition it will still crank for a lil while. WTF Why is this? The engine has never been turned over since it was rebuilt and I think this may be the problem. Please help.

Also if anyone is in the Akron, Ohio area and would like to come by and help with this, in the near future, I would compensate you for whatever you help to get accomplished.

Thanks

Sounds like a problem with the ignition switch. The key and lock barrell rotate a connector in the switch that may be worn or broken. You would need to remove the lock barrell in the ignition to see if the switch behind it rotates properly. I'm not sure how to remove the lock barrell on your car, but I've seen this problem on other cars.

check the voltage at the solneniod's stater(small one) wire while it is trying to crank there sould be none when the key is off (starter bad)
if there is than the ingnition switch is bad
i don't think your switch would go out while swapping engines, as a parts pro a advace i've seen the contacts in the solnenoid stick causing the same problem on other cars

Ok, I just got around to pulling the ignition switch last night. I was going to swap it with the ignition switch from my talon, but they are different. Why are they different? The talon is an automatic where the eclipse is a 5spd. Is that why?
Also, does anyone know about how much ignition switches cost?
Thanx

stick a mirror down the back side of the intake till you can see the starter, see if your battery cable and solenoid wire are touching...its a tight fit in there, that was my problem. i had to jocky the wires around.
