Bumped the starter tonight for the first time tonight after a usual wiesco/eagle rebuild(fired up first pull!) :thumb:, Its a 93 awd with a brand new 90 converted eprom ecu.The 2 pins are switched. Now heres the problem, when its running ill turn the key off pull it out and the car will continue to run.I have to pull the coil plug off to kill it.Im thinking its got to be something in the ignition system, Im going to start troubleshooting it tomorrow, but thought id throw this up to see if anyones had this issue to give me an idea where to start. Oh yea the brake lights are on at all times as well, gotta try to sort that one out as well.

We had the same exact problem. It was a while ago so I can't remember perfectly but I remember the car wouldn't shut off or it would get stuck cranking and we would have to disconnect the battery to get the car to turn off. It wasn't turbo timer related or anything like that, if my memory serves me correct it was the starter, which makes sense because you mentioned bumping your starter and now having these problems.

You can try hitting the starter with a rubber mallet (hard) because the starter can stick. If that doesn't work though, which it probably won't, you're going to need a new starter. I almost guarantee that fixes your problem.

Let us know how you make out. :)

Sounds like a wiring/grounding issue to me. Verify all the ground points are tight and none missed.

Its not dieseling or the starter being stuck. What i mean is i can take the key out and go for a drive around the block like its still in.Somehow the key being removed does not disable the ignition system. Ill post up if i can figure this out.

If your starter wires are shorting it can cause this. I had one of my starter wires (can't remember if it was the positive or negative) that had some worn insulation in one spot and was shorting out and on the frame. I replaced the cable and it was fixed.

had the same problem. tried to turn off, because i was overheating, and uh, it didnt shut off when i pulled the key. ended up dumping the clutch. but onto where i had issues.

previous owner of my car, had a car alarm installed, with remote start.

under the dash was hacked and shredded to wazoo. patience and a new harness, helped me a bunch.

also another wiring problem i had, was another from the previous owner, the waste gate tube, was dumped directly onto the main harness going in between the ac condenser and the radiator.

+1 on the ignition switch first. The car can't diesel. It can only stay running because of something like the ignition switch keeping power to the ECU which gives power to the fuel pump. I suppose something in the harness between the battery and starter could electrically short and make it seem like the starter switch.

Figured it out it was a wiring issue with the fuel pump causing it to run continuously. As for the brake lights the pedal switch just needed adjustment.

i could pull my key out of my 87 camaro while driving down the road, as if the key was still in there.. and i could also start the car with out the key as well by turning the ignition.. the problem was though that the steering would indeed lock up though.. which was good while driving.. never had that problem in my mitsu;s yet.
