Car dies while driving

Hello all

ok here's the problem , I searched first but maybe my keyword searches were off.. I have a 99 rs automatic (DD). It only happens once every month or 2 (sometimes sooner). I will be driving down the road and all of a sudden nothing ,no lights come on or anything just nothing ,, I give it gas and nothing . So I put it in neutral and then then engine lights and all come on ,turn the key off while goin down the road and turn it back on . It fires right back up , pop it back to drive and keep going.. I was thinking TPS or failing Ecu but it has been doin it at random for like a yr or so . What are your thoughts and if i missed it somewhere on here please direct me to it

Possible overheating ignition switch?

i donno , i have a obd2 scanner and no codes (except for one but i know why). Would that switch pull a code if it was going bad? It also sometimes wont start so i turn the key off and wait lik 5 seconds and it fires up . I'm kinda like there's a ghost in my car at this point Lmao any help is great as well as ideas

It wont throw a code. Definately sounds like ignition switch is faulty.

Also make sure your negative battery terminal is on tight. Cause I did some work to mine and took mine off and forgot to tighten the bolt with a wrench and the car would die out of no where then turn back on.

If the alternator is good, you can drive the car without the battery connected.

To the OP, does your car have a remote starter, turbo timer, or alarm? If it does, i would double check the wiring. Alot of the time, shady installers use quick taps (vampire clips) to tap into the ignition harness. This can cause the main ignition harness wires to have crappy connections or break off completely. Just another thought!

Nope. I dont have remote start or an alarm system. And i checked the terminals, there good and tight. Maybe I'll get an ignition switch for giggles and see if it does it anymore. Thanks and any other thoughts are welcome.
