car dies after ideal for a min,then wont start back up

ok i have a 98 eclipse spyder gst(only had it a few weeks) i when out and start it this morning so it could warm up and everything and i come out about 6-7 min later and its dead,so i tryed starting it back up and it doesnt do anything like the batterys dead.i let it seat a few mins and tryed it again and it starts,i let it run for about 2-3 mins and died again and samething..i have no idea what it is..anybody have any ideas?? the past few days i havent had the problem.

Have you tried adjusting the base idle set screw? test your alternator also.

no because its not like its idealing to low really. do i just disconnect my battery to tell if its my alternator?

You can test it with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage at the battery the start the car and check the voltage at the battery again. You should see an increase in voltage.

Mine goes from like 12.3 when not running to like 14.6 when running.

If there is no jump in voltage then it may be you alternator or it may be the alternator fuse.

I'm having somewhat of the same problem, my motor starts idles high warms up for a few then dies, then won't start back up for awhile . Let me know if you find out what it is, and I'll let you know if I figure out what it might be.

well i went to autozone and had the battery and alternator tested and they are both fine, ive noticed that its idealing kinda low though..

Look for info on the uhh.. coolant temp switch I think it was? I remember there was some coolant related sensor that can go bad and cause an issue similar to what you have.

If the car is acting like the battery is dead and nothing happens, no headlights, no dash lights, no starter then I'm be looking at the power first starting at the battery terminals.

If it doing something different then tell us exactly what it's doing.

It would be nice if people would stop guessing until you tell us a little more about the problem.

Ya, sounds like the coolant temp sensor to me.
