i have had this car since april and have only got to put 2,000 miles on it. I know dsm's are problem after problem (this is my 3rd dsm). I went after some pizza the other night and when i was getting back onto the interstate i was behind a semi. I was in 2nd gear wrapping it out and getting ready to shift into third and then had fuel cut. Then all of a sudden my car died as if it had ran out of gas. I had to call my little brother to come with the trailer and get me and my car. i assumed it was the fuel pump that went bad since the car does have 193,000 miles. So i went and got a new fuel pump and put it in and its not kicking on. I then tested the old fuel pump on an old battery i had in the garage and it still worked. Im thinking i blew a fuse or relay since i have power to everything else in the car except the fuel pump. My question is what relay or fuse runs the fuel pump???? i pulled every fuse in the car and under the hood but all of them are good but i dont know how to check a relay and dont have a single clue which one runs the fuel pump. the car is a 1998 Talon TSi AWD 5 spd

I believe it is the mpi relay. From my understanding it is a dual purpose relay for your ecu and fuel pump.

i printed that pic of the relays out then went to the car and took them out. took them to both Advance AND Autozone and they have no idea what they are for. they bring up fuel pump relay in their system and the pic comes up and it looks nothing like what i have taken out of the car. i have no clue what i have to do i just need this piece of crap running so i can get rid of it ASAP!!!!!!

check your ECU, Try like carquest or Napa for the relays, by the way i have 22 acres of land in camebridge.

ok, i just got to work so i will check that out when i get home tonight. you have 22 acres in cambridge? well stop down at the bike shop in town ill make you a good deal on a 4wheeler or something and you can do some ridin there

With your car as a turbo, it's hiding under the hood right next to the fuse box. Looks like a square flat "tin can" with tonnage of wires heading into it.

IT's the "brain" of the entire vehicle's operation to basically makes the motor run very effectively to meet emissions required by the EPA for that certain model year of manufacture.

..it's like a CPU in a computer - without it, all the components under the hood will not function correctly.

Sorry buddy I didn't realize they moved them on the 98's. Check under the hood like the guy stated but it should still look like the pics that I sent you.
