the day before car was running normally no problems. i wake up the next morning and put the key and turned it. i did not hear the normal beeping it makes i tried to turn it on and all it did was tick the lights left of the rpm meter all went dim and the stock boost gauge would go down. so i jumped it and it turned on no problem let it run for 3 min then turned it off and back on again and eveything seemed fine. i turned it off and looked under the hood and everything seemed fine but i weird kind of burn smell was around the engine bay. i went to turn it on again and it would just tick again. anyone no what could be the problem? did a fuse or alternator fry out? please help this is my DD:sosad:

took the alternator out and man she did not want to come out easily. 4 bolts total one was a little rusty but some pb blaster took care of that. I accessed it from mainly the bottom of the car, i had it jacked up. It if very snug in its spot some wiggling and soft tugs got it out. i took it to autozone to check if it was ok and it failed everything ha. havent bought a new one yet trying to see whats the best deal i can get. i did not remove anything to get the alternator out made it a tad harder to get bolts but it worked. i did take out the side splash guard tho. i would recommend taking out the side splash guard, driver side cooling fan, and top heat sheild to make it easier to remove.(but you will have to put it all back so you pick the trade off) hopefully this is what the problem is that im having. thanks again GUTSI for all your info
I will keep you guys posted

ok so i was going to buy a new alternator at autozone for $140. i myself thought that was alot of money for it. (im a cheapy) so i was looking on good ol craigslist and found a guy selling a used oem one for $30!!! took it to autozone and it checked out it passed the three tests. i thought this was a steal and bought it. i am planing on installing it tomarrow. hopefully

ok guys finally got it all bolted up!!! ran into to more problems with it so it took me longer. ok so the one i got off the guy for $30 turned out to be a 2g gsx alternator! the differance between this one and the gst is that the long bolt that holds it to the car is smaller and more compact and will not allow it to fit! so my happy face went sour. i called him back up and he said he had a second one that was off a gst i picked it up checked out and it fit!!! but while i was putting in the alternator i broke a tiny connector off the oil filter housing. i dont know whats its for or what is its purpose but i dont want to start the car without it. i went to autozone and advanced auto but they had nothing like it. any ideas what this is or where i can get it from?

it slides into the connector i have in my hand and screws in the the nice shiny part

if you cant find what that piece is i would take the pics over to the mitsu dealership. they can tell you importance, function, and wether you need to replace it or not. i hate dealership prices but sometimes the techs can be a big help. they usually own a dsm themselves so they are usuall glad to help.
