today i was running my car, running around 7-8 psi, just fine, and suddenly it died, i parked it, and i started it again, no problems at all, no idle issues, no shaking of any kind. my question is basic, what could make a car to just die suddenly, a short probably? what else should i check.

Thanks in advance.

hmm.. Try checking your timing belt, make sure it's in good shape, but damn did you get lucky. It's good to hear it started right back up.

I would start with checking your Battery terminals. make sure they are tight and have no corrosion on them.

how come it could be the battery if the alternator is in good shape? i did an engine rebuilt, also the starter motor was replaced, 02 sensor, all gaskets, new timing belt, new FPR, new fuel filter, new valve cover, new crankshaft, i installed a small 16g on it, it is a 91 eclipse GSX.. anything else to check? thanks. :thumb:

Dying going down the road could be an infinite amount of probabilities. Fuel pump, fuel pump relay, anything in the ignition system etc.

If it started back up and ran fine, I would rule out the timing belt. If you test while the engine is running good, you will find that the engine is running good. Long and short of it is unless you inadvertently run across it, you probably won't find it.

If it dies and won't start, we stand a much better chance of finding it.

Do your tests quick. Spray some carb cleaner into the intake while cranking and if it tries to start, you know your ignition is good and the problem is probably fuel related. We can then go from there.

Also, remember to be very careful and have a fire extinguisher handy anytime you are performing this kind of test as it could backfire and ignite in the intake.

Good Luck
